Roto Riteup: April 25th, 2012

Today’s Roto Riteup is back in full, so that’s sort of cool.

• Chris Narveson has now undergone season-ending surgery on his left shoulder. Narveson was never a fantasy stud, but he was a good candidate for wins and a few strikeouts in NL-only leagues. Narveson may now be out in Milwaukee, depending on what happens with free agents to be Zack Greinke and Shaun Marcum. Even if you have him cheap in a very deep dynasty league, I’d cut bait.

• I’d like to say that getting a second medical opinion doesn’t signify anything is wrong and just suggests the Yankees are being extra careful, but I can’t. That’s why Michael Pineda heading in for a second glance bothers me to no end. Hopefully we’ll hear the results of Pineda’s MRI by the end of the day today.

• Adam Jones has had a wonderful start to the season, hitting five homers and stealing four bags through Monday’s action while hitting above .300. If Jones keeps pace, he’d end the year with over 30 homers and 25 steals, making him a fantasy dynamo. It may seem weird, but Jones is a mere 26-years-old, so this added power is nowhere out of the ordinary.

• Matt Capps hasn’t walked a batter yet, but that’s the only good he’s been to the Twins. If you own him as a source of saves, put every decent Twins’ reliever on your watch list, because one of them will be taking over very soon.

For those of you who play daily fantasy games like FanGraphs: The Game, or just like to stream players, here are a couple matchups you may be able to exploit.

A Pitcher for Today: Jarrod Parker (OAK) vs CWS
Parker posted good strikeout numbers in Triple-A, and playing a youngster in his Oakland debut at home should be quite fun.

A Pitcher for Tomorrow: Ryan Vogelsong (SFG) at CIN
Vogelsong is still on top of his game despite an offseason to forget how to be effective.

A Hitter for Today: Josh Hamilton (TEX) vs NYY (Phil Hughes)
Hamilton is on a tear, and Hughes has been struggling a bit. I’d like to think Hamilton could muster up at least one extra-base hit.

Today’s hitter for “those of you who…just like to stream players” is current second-best player in fantasy baseball Josh Hamilton? How is that helpful? Lazy.

Still, if you’re any sort of baseball fan, you don’t need someone to tell you that Josh Hamilton is good. That’s like putting Roy Halladay as a pitcher for today.

I come here to gain insight on lesser known players.

Hector is a baseball hipster. “I only put obscure players in my lineup… you’ve probably never heard of them.”

I liked Josh Hamilton at one point, before he got lame. I liked him back when he was wallowing in addiction and out of baseball. Now that he’s raking and playing for a good team, it just seems forced – like he’s trying really hard to play baseball, which is lame.

Also, I know of this coffee joint that is probably way better than your coffee joint. We should go to my coffee joint so I can explain all of the ways your previous joint was inferior.

Phew, it’s a good thing I’m here…. without me you would be lost!!!
