Roto Riteup April 22, 2017

Well, it’s about time Jose Bautista. I’ve been wanting to mention your name on the Roto Riteup for a while now. Heading into Saturday night’s matchup against the Angels, Joey Bats was hitting just .109 and was on a 15-game homerun-less hitting streak.

He hit a three-run home run in the top of the 13th inning to take over the game. Still, it’s a risky play to think about his upside this season. If it’s a five-outfielder scenario, sure. But other than that, he’s a buy low option.

On the Agenda

  1. News and Notes
  2. Hamel Camel
  3. Garza, it’s time
  4. Probable Pitchers

News and Notes

Joey Gallo hit his first career multi-homer game Friday night off of Nathan Karns, and it was hit…hard. Gallo is definitely taking advantage of his recent opportunity. I am obsessed with him in all fantasy formats. That power is undeniable.

Jeremy Hellickson continues his successful season. He defeated the Braves Friday night with five strikeouts without issuing a walk facing 25 batters. He lowered his ERA to 1.88 and a 0.71 WHIP.

Miguel Cabrera left Friday’s game early with a right groin strain. He will be re-evaluated on Saturday the Tigers announced.

Hamel Camel

I was way too excited to see Cole Hamels on the bump against those Royals bats.

He had his first win of the season and had a stellar outing allowing just three hits in eight innings. He holds a 2.77 ERA on the season and has lowered his groundball rate slightly and even though his flyball rate has raised, it seems a decent percentage of them are staying in the infield. So he seems to have control.

Garza, it’s time

It’s actually happening.

Matt Garza will be activated from the disabled list Monday and the team isn’t wasting any time by adding him into the rotation.

He will be on the bump Monday against the Reds and across two minor-league rehab outings, he was really solid.

Fantasy wise, however, yikes.

He did throw a lot of groundballs last season and his hard contact rate remained fair, but he was not striking guys out. Unless it’s a desperate situation, stay away.

Probable Pitchers

Michael Pineda @ Pirates

Jacob deGrom vs. Nationals

Chase Anderson vs. Cardinals

Robbie Ray vs. Dodgers

Corey Kluber owners should also be happy after last night’s performance. First complete game shutout of the year goes to CyKluber, and his command, velocity, and movement were all up from previous starts. Gotta see if he can sustain it, but signs look good.

Whoops. Everything else stands, though.

“complete game shutout”

It’s just a shutout. You can’t throw a shutout if you don’t pitch a complete game.

Take your peeves elsewhere. It’s a common phrase. Save criticism for things worth criticizing.

Just because it’s common doesn’t make it correct. I mean, would you ever say that a dude hit a “four-run grand slam?”

A four-run grand slam is correct. Grand slams plate 4 runs.
