Sleeper and the Bust DK Contest

On most Tuesday’s and Friday’s and some other days, Paul Sporer and I will be doing a $5 draftkings game for anyone that is interested.

Closer Chaos

Daniel Bard is expected to return to the Rockies as soon as today. Bard reportedly looked really good in his rehab assignment and bullpens so it sounds like he is good physically. He may be eased back into high leverage, but I would expect him to regain the closer role back quickly.

Quick Hits

Luis Campusano was placed on the IL with a thumb sprain. There is no timetable for his return.

Hunter Greene left Monday’s start after getting hit with a come-backer in the shin.

X-rays were negative on his leg. Greene was pitching well so this is disappointing, but it sounds like he avoided serious injury and he stated following the game he expects to make his next start. Consider him day-to-day at this time.

Jesse Winker was scratched from the lineup on Monday with Oblique soreness. Consider him day-to-day at this time, but this is concerning for a guy that routinely deals with injury issues.

Jacob deGrom left Monday’s start with wrist soreness. deGrom was dealing in this one and had thrown four no-hit innings with five strikeouts. It didn’t sound like a serious issue following the game and he stated he hoped to make his next start versus the A’s. Consider him day-to-day at this time.

Corbin Burnes left his start on Monday with a pec injury.

Burnes was pitching well in this one and was still able to get a win, so at least there is that. He stated after the game that he didn’t believe the injury to be serious. Consider him day-to-day at this time.

Various News and Notes
Hayden Wesneski threw seven innings pitched allowing one earned run on five hits and no walks while striking out seven in the victory over the A’s on Monday.

Wesneski did not look good through the first two innings, struggling with his control and command, but was a different pitcher after that. He ended up with a 49% CSW on his sweeper and a 39% overall. He struggled to start the season, but what we saw in the last five innings of this start was what we were dreaming of in Spring. I don’t want to get too excited, but I am definitely holding tight.

Patrick Wisdom went 3-for-5 with two home runs in the victory over the A’s on Monday.

Wisdom has been crushing the ball in the early part of the season, hitting .288/.351/.788 with eight home runs. He is still whiffing a ton and chasing out of the zone so he will slow down at some point, but you have to ride the hot streak until it ends.

Kevin Newman went 2-for-4 with a home run in the victory over the Rays on Monday.

Newman has not been great offensively, but he plays good defense and doesn’t strike out. He has multi-positional eligibility and could be a valuable bench option in deeper formats.

Kevin Gausman allowed seven earned runs on seven hits and two walks while striking out five in the loss to the Astros.

Gausman was absolutely lit up in the first inning, allowing four of the hits, both walks, and all of his earned runs. He was fantastic after that holding the Astros in check. I know this one hurt, but it was most likely just a bump in what should be a pretty nice road. If anyone wants to sell him based on this, take advantage.

Streaming Pitchers (Under 50% in CBS)

Pitcher for Today: Alex Wood at MIA

Lot of good options today, but Wood has pitched really well and this is a great matchup in a good park.

High Risk Options: Brad Keller vs TEX, Eduardo Rodriguez vs CLE, Matthew Boyd vs CLE, Josiah Gray vs BAL, Bailey Falter at CHW, Hunter Gaddis at DET, Jose Suarez at NYY, Dean Kremer at WAS, Peyton Battenfeld at DET, Colin Rea at SEA.

Pitcher for Tomorrow: Spencer Turnbull vs CLE

Playing the matchup here with Cleveland struggling offensively, but it is a short slate that doesn’t have many safe streaming options.

High Risk Options: Jhony Brito vs LAA, Griffin Canning at NYY, Jake Woodford vs ARI.

For those of you that would like to see how these picks play out, I have a doc I put together to track the stats from my recommended pitchers. It does not include the “High Risk Options.”

I read “pec injury” (Burnes) as “pee injury” the first half-dozen times.

haha me too.

I was at the game and he was holding his chest so I was worried it was a lung/heart issue
