Closer Chaos
Jakob Junis pitched a scoreless inning to register his third save for the Rangers on Sunday versus the Dodgers.
Junis was probably not on many people’s radar as a closer heading into the season, but it appears it is his job. Cole Winn may factor in, but Junis seems to have the lionshare of the role moving forward.
Quick Hits
George Springer was placed on the IL with a fractured toe. Springer broke the toe after fouling a pitch off of his foot over the weekend.
The hope is Springer will not be on the IL long, but he will miss at least 10-14 days. Eloy Jimenez was recalled to take his spot on the roster and figures to be the regular DH in Springer’s absence.
Tyler O’Neill was placed on the 7-Day IL with a concussion. There is no timetable for his return. Jonathan Rodriguez was recalled to take O’Neill’s spot on the roster.
Christian Yelich left Sunday’s game with an apparent hamstring injury.
Yelich didn't appear to be running well on this first-inning grounder that was initially ruled a double play before the Brewers challenged. Typically a ball he beats out easily. pic.twitter.com/deIXwAJmEN

Following the game manager Pat Murphy stated that he felt “a little twinge” while running and that they would be getting imaging on it. He is expected to hit the IL.
Cody Bolton left Sunday’s game with a back issue.
He is expected to undergo imaging on Monday. The Astros are extremely thin in the rotation right now, so this is not great news for Houston.
Nick Pivette left Sunday’s game with an elbow issue.
Manager Craig Stammen stated that he may or may not get imaging done. Consider him day-to-day for now.
Various News and Notes
Cade Povich threw 6.2 innings versus the Giants on Sunday, allowing one run on five hits and no walks while striking out five in the victory.
Povich’s curveball was fantastic, getting a 47% whiff rate and he mixed his other pitches well. Povich has been solid so far for the Orioles, but his rotation spot isn’t guaranteed right now.
Tristan Gray went 1-for-3 with a home run in the victory over the Blue Jays on Sunday.
Gray has quietly been good to start the season in Minnesota and with the loss of Royce Lewis, he is likely in for more playing time moving forward. He profiles as an accumulator so if he continues to get playing time, there is deep league value.
Colson Montgomery went 2-for-3 with a home run in the victory over the Royals on Sunday.
Montgomery has struggled to start the season, but the power has been there. The knock on him has always been the hit tool and he is being extremely aggressive in the zone right now which is leading to some of these struggles. If he can make more consistent contact in the zone, there is massive upside, but he needs to be more patient and wait for his pitch to accomplish this.

Pitcher for Today: Grant Holmes vs MIA
I don’t trust Holmes’ ability to stay healthy long term, but that’s a problem for later and right now he is pitching well and this is a good matchup.
Other Options: Will Warren vs LAA, Matthew Liberatore vs CLE, Cade Cavalli at PIT, Javier Assad at PHI, Justin Wrobleski vs NYM.
Pitcher for Tomorrow: Ryan Weathers vs LAA
Weathers has pitched well so far and gets an Angels team that struggles versus lefties.
Other Options: Noah Schultz vs TB, Joey Cantillo at STL, Mick Abel vs BOS, Jeffrey Springs vs TEX, Colton Gordon vs COL, Max Meyer at ATL, Brady Singer vs SF, Mitch Keller vs WAS.
