Roto Riteup: April 11, 2016

Monday’s Roto Riteup believes it’s the little extra that makes things extraordinary. That, and a hint of paprika.

On the agenda:
1. Shin-Soo Choo and Nomar Mazara
2. Various News and Notes
3. Streaming Pitcher Options

Shin-Soo Choo and Nomar Mazara
Mazara debuted yesterday in place of Choo, who will miss over a month with calf injury, and the young outfielder hit a homer off softball starter Jered Weaver. Mazara has what can only be described as “massive upside,” and big pop in his bat. Not even old enough to purchase a delicious adult beverage in most of these United States, Mazara will likely play everyday until Choo returns, and possibly beyond. The Rangers outfield is crowded, but the long term investment in Ian Desmond is nil, so he won’t block Mazara’s path should he force it open.

Various News and Notes
These constant rainouts must be killing owners in H2H leagues, especially Tanaka’s cancelled start last night against the Tigers. Climate change, folks; it’s ruining our fantasy lives.

Felix Hernandez had a classic start yesterday: seven innings, no runs, 10 strikeouts, and no win. The Mariners will be better this year, but man is it frustrating to own The King and constantly get screwed out of W’s.

Trevor Story is not of this world; the right-hander hit his seventh homer last night, this one off Brandon Maurer of the Padres. While I thought Story would have solid power potential and a good ballpark to play in, the young shortstop has far exceeded expectations. Owners of Story should trade him to someone dumber and more reactionary before the shine rubs off.

Jake Odorizzi couldn’t stay out of trouble against the Orioles in Baltimore, giving up four earned in six innings. Odorizzi is still working on being a complete pitcher, but he’s a solid start while in the ugly but friendly confines of Tropicana Field.

Eugenio Suarez was a revelation last year, hitting .280 with 13 homers in under 100 games with the Reds, and he’s picked up where he left off. Suarez hit his fourth homer of the season yesterday, and has struck out just once in 26 plate appearances thus far. Just 24 years old, perhaps we haven’t seen the best of Suarez just yet.

Streaming Pitcher Options
If you enjoy streaming pitchers or play DFS, tune into the Roto Riteup for recommendations each and every day.

A pitcher for today: Shane Green vs PIT (Jonathan Niese)
Green will make his first turn in the rotation, and while it’d be better if it were at Pittsburgh and there was no DH involved, he doesn’t get that luxury here.

A pitcher for tomorrow: Robbie Erlin at PHI (Charlie Morton)
Erlin isn’t special and isn’t Petco, but he’ll be cheap and should be in line for a win. Other options for Tuesday include Juan Nicasio, Kris Medlen, and Wade Miley.

Per Rotowire, Verlander got his start pushed back to today and will be on the rubber instead of Greene- just FYI
