Gary: Hey Paul!  I’ve been trying to pry away Rizzo in a Roto OBP to take advantage of his 2B elig, when he gets it.  Would trading away Rendon/Upton for Rizzo/Salazar be worth the 2B power upgrade (I have Odor currently).  Thanks!

Paul Sporer: I mean Rendon has been pretty amazing. That’s not a bad deal if you buy Salazar returning to do something of note

Bruce: Is Villar basically a 1-dimension speed guy at this point, like any better than Mallex, maybin, etc?

Paul Sporer: I mean he does still have 8 taters so he’s better than Mallex there, but Mallex has the AVG

Big Tuna: I’m in contention and going for it. Should I trade keepable Berrios, keepable Domingo and keepable Fulmer for non-keeper Kershaw?

Paul Sporer: Interesting group. Think I might go the order you’ve listed. Sucker for Contreras being C. No shade on Happ, either, just a strong group

Paul Sporer: There is at least one roster in pretty much any 12-teamer that should have him

Edwin: Does anyone get excited about reading “Bold Predictions” , or (better yet) mid-season updates on those predictions?  I’m curious if anyone gets any value out of the multitude of these lists we’re faced with each year.  Am I missing something?

Paul Sporer: No one is a safe bet. Think Rondon gets the first shot, though I’d prefer Greene

Paul Sporer: No, that can be pretty savvy if he goes somewhere that calls him up. As long as your’e not going someone really good to do it

Paul Sporer: 42%. Unless you really need saves, don’t stash Swarz right now

Paul Sporer: Don’t wanna trade Trout and the last 2 aren’t at peak value so Betts prob gives most bang for buck right now

Big Tuna: MLB Trade Rumors wrote today in a section on Nationals trade rumors that Trea is likely out for all of 2017. Is that true!? Please, no!

Paul Sporer: It’s certainly possible. We’ve gotten jack shit on a timeline.

Matt: Does Dahl get enough playing time to be a fantasy asset this season?

Paul Sporer: Can’t get a read on that sitch at all. First he’s done, then he’s definitely back, then maybe not.

Nick: Was offered Kyle Tucker and Schebler for Stras and Cahill in a keeper league…take it or leave it?

Paul Sporer: Tucker is a pretty big prospect so if you’re looking to the future it seems doable

Ken: Also, any update on your Rondon/Greene feelings? Haven’t really watched the Tigers at all this season.

Paul Sporer: Honestly it’s prob smart to go Rondon in 9th and give him clean innings bc Greene is better being the fireman, but from a fantasy standpoint I’d prefer Greene getting the saves bc he’s better

Big Tuna: What kind of fantasy impact will Carson Kelly have? Worth adding in keeper leagues?

Paul Sporer: Meh, I’m not too interested

Carlos: How do you view Bregman’s value in a dynasty format? Top 25? Top 50?

Paul Sporer: Closer to top 80, not 50

Lightning: Which two would you keep ($260): Ray $3, Fulmer $5, Wood, $3, Darvish $13. Who could be third?

Big Tuna: In a vacuum is keeper Berrios and non keeper Yelich too much to give up in a 12 tm OPS for non keeper Cano?

Detroit’s Most Wanted: If you are in a h2h pts league with playoffs, should you fear Strasburg being shut down in semis and/or finals if the Nats run away with the NL East as they are? Nervous to trade for him, should already make the playoffs.

Paul Sporer: I don’t see that happening

Nicholas: Hey Paul. Who would you rather have for ROS? Felix or Tehran? Gotta drop one. 12 tm mixed

Paul Sporer: Eek. At least I can feel confident using Teheran on the road, I don’t really feel good about Felix anywhere

Different Paul: Traded Alonso for Nova. Did I get enough? I needed a pitcher.

Paul Sporer: It’s not bad. He’s a good ratio play for sure

Detroit’s Most Wanted: Tommy. Pham.

Paul Sporer: Such a beast!

BP for my Byung Ho: My Matz, Jim Johnson and Mancini for Cespedes? 16 team league

Paul Sporer: Ya that’s a good buy low on Yo, but I do worry that he’s playing through nagging injuries that will keep him relatively meh

Greg: Is a mid-level closer plus Josh Harrison enough for Jose Ramirez? It’s a 12-team redraft.

Paul Sporer: No, it’d have to be an elite closer and it probably still wouldn’t get it done, IMO

Don: Pick one to drop Rosenthal, Brach or A. Sanchez(Frustrating cuz he keeps going on the DL)

Paul Sporer: Gotta hold Brach for sure bc of Britton rumors. So it’s Rosy v. Sanchez. If you have other saves in addition to Brach, you can drop Rosy, but he should have that damn job

Paul Sporer: Sanchez just might not get right with his fingers all year

Paul Sporer: I’m torn bc I think Rosy will get that gig soon. So ya, Rosy if you have other closers w/Brach. Sanchez if you’re tight on saves

Le Sigh: So I lost Correa.  Picked up Arcia and then Nunez got dropped.  Switch to Nunez?

Paul Sporer: You can, they’re pretty similar

Jackson: Is it better to take a chance on keeping Devers ($2) (or any top prospect) over a proven stud like Betts ($50)? Bryant, Trout each cost $65+ fwiw

Paul Sporer: Depends what the rest of your crew looks like. I’m always trying to compete in the given yr so I’d go Betts

Le Groan: My Arenado and Addison Reed for his Stanton and Gyorko?  Jedd would be my SS.

Paul Sporer: Not much at all

Jack: Anything Javier Baez is doing that suggests he might be doing something different? He’s looked good of late.

Detroit’s Most Wanted: I think whoever gets Verlander at the deadline, should he get traded and Detroit takes on $$, will be v happy with what they get. Velo still up and he’s only going to be better, think the Brewers, Cubs, or Astros ante up?

Paul Sporer: He has just the one clunker over his last 10. Looks like he’s starting to come around. I really hope Detroit takes the $ if they make the move so they can actually get something good in return otherwise it’s hard to get top flight prospects when the other tm is paying $60 milly

Nicklaus: Acuna or Devers? Thinking in dynasty settings.

Gary Busey: In a 12 team keep 5 league…going for it this year but need pitching to compete. Trade 5 years of Trae for Wood, Severino and Berrios who all can be kept for 6 years? Who wins that deal…

Paul Sporer: Love that deal for you given your circumstances. Betting on young pitching is risky going forward beyond ’17, but that’s 3 impact arms for you this yr

CarGo Ship Sinks: CarGo for Brad Peacock fair at this point?  Or hold onto CarGo?

Paul Sporer: I’d take Peacock

Shawn: Does anyone want the closer job in STL? I think Jason Isringhausen is next man up

Paul Sporer: LOL, right? Tom Henke making a return

TJ: I’m going for it this year but was offered 4 year keeper at $1 Margot for Jeff Samardja who is a non keeper. Too much value not to take it?

Paul Sporer: Gotta figure out how much losing Shark hurts your pitching, but maybe getting Margot offsets it with his speed

Trevor Williams: Decent pedigree, 2nd rd.Decent swinging strike roughly 9-10percent. 2.57 fip over last 30 days. Is this a guy who is being overlooked?

Paul Sporer: He’s ok. Maybe a home-only starter

BP for my Byung Ho: Is avg a new under priced commodity? With the power explosion dingers are easy to find, but guys with dingers AND >.290avgs seem even more rare. Am I wrong?

Paul Sporer: I’m not sure if it’s underpriced, but definitely a very valuable commodity in this strikeout-heavy landscape

Milk: Goldy + Robbie Ray for Bryant + Carrasco? OBP 12 team redraft. Biggest concern is fewer RBI from Bryant.

Paul Sporer: Cubs are heating up, RBIs will come

Timo P: Was offered Conforto for Thames. Who would you take?

Paul Sporer: Sure, it’s perfectly fine

Phil: Strasbourg or Degrom: who would you prefer as your ace for the next 4 yrs?

Paul Sporer: Sooo far out to project SPs. I’d say deGrom

Strosfan: Do you think Bregman breaks out of his Sophmore slump?  And do you think he’ll get SS eligibility?

Paul Sporer: Not even sure it’s a soph slump, he’s not far off his ’16 numbers. Can def see him getting SS reps

Shawn: Expecting Salazar to be better when he’s back, or more of the same?

Paul Sporer: Hoping for better for sure

Phil: What are your thoughts on Marco Gonzalez going to Seattle?

Paul Sporer: I’ve always like Gonzales as a solid #4. Seems to finally be healthy again. I’m intrigued

weezy: so I am waaaay ahead in ERA, WHIP and K’s in my Keeper OBP league (I went Scherzer/Kershaw plus $1 guys), and just swapped Alex Wood for Michael Conforto. I like Conforto’s long term keeper prospects more. How’d I do?

Noah: Who do you like best among Pham, Domingo and Desmond?

Paul Sporer: Gotta go Domingo as he does what Pham does with certainty of playing time and youth on his side

DarkWing Duck: Cobb for Trevor Bauer, Gsellman, and Finnegan in 16 team ESPN Points league? If not, who is a good player to target for Cobb considering I’m not competing for next few years.

Paul Sporer: You’re getting all three? That’s not bad

Sammy Mess: At what point do you cut bait on Brandon Crawford…or has that time already passed and I’m a bit slow?

Paul Sporer: The dearth of SS has made it harder, but it’s time in 10 and 12 teamers. Not sure there’s much else to get in leagues deeper than that

Paul Sporer: Prefer to consolidate talent in 10/12 teamers for sure. I’d hold.

Ricky: Paul – in redraft league, last place team traded Kluber to 1st place team for Arcia/Faria. League tried to veto, but commish let it go through. What trade rules can we make next season to prevent these obscenely unfair trades from happening?

Paul Sporer: Can say after All-Star break, you can only trade 2 spots above and below? Last place can trade 4 spots up since no one is below and First can trade 4 down

Paul Sporer: So limit the ability for a last place team to give away stuff to a top tm

Paul Sporer: Yes, they are. .778 OPS since May 21st

Domingo Santana: I’m having a pretty good year.  Do I get 25hrs and 12SBs this year?  What would you say my line is next year?

Paul Sporer: Ya I think so. As for next year, I’d project something similar

le puke: My pitching is awful.  My Arenado for his Kershaw and Thames/McCutcheon?  Hitting is worth about 25% more than equal pitching in this league.

Paul Sporer: Gotta see some MLB work. I don’t move too much on rehab starts one way or the other

Paul Sporer: Ya he’s a beast. Fastball sets up everything for just about every pitch. His has been tremendous this year. Top 30 SP rn. Gotta see how he finishes up

Big Tuna: Re: trading for upgrades in roto. Are we too far into the season to make real gains in ratio categories like ERA and WHIP?

Paul Sporer: No we’re not. Common misconception. The ratio stats are often tightly bunched so moves are still VERY possible

Adam: Have any teams been specific linked to Samardzija trade discussions? Trying to decide whether to deal for him in NL-only.

Paul Sporer: I haven’t, sorry

Paul Sporer: Obv the hair has nothing to do with performance, but it’s v ugly

Moltar: I’m in first place by a good amount. Am I crazy to want to trade my Lindor for Correa? 12tm keep-6 h2h points, both guys are comparably priced keeper assets. I think I can survive the missed production for the next 6 weeks as long as Correa is back for the playoffs, and I just think he’s a better fantasy asset. I’m crazy, right?

Paul Sporer: It’s definitely risky, but I like Correa over him for the future, too so I might make the move

Zach: What is Tyson Ross? Any hope ROS and/or 2018?

Paul Sporer: He was always a 2018 guy for me this yr. I just didn’t want any part. Thoracic outlet syndrome has terrible results and it’s still pretty new so I was just passing

Paul Sporer: Not even a year. And yes, I do in deeper leagues. His command just isn’t what it was last year and that’s why you have to be careful with judging off a month. I knew the risk, but I was sold on the stuff and command

Paul Sporer: Pedigree, but I’m just not sold that he has a sky-high ceiling anymore

Robert: In a weekly league without batting average, would you start Kyle Schwarber or Wilson Contreras on a week-to-week basis at catcher?

John: Is Schwarber going to stop murdering my team anytime soon and actually hit?

Paul Sporer: I’d go Contreras. I’ve always felt Schwarber was WILDLY overrated.

Dflah: Do you buy this version of Travis Shaw ROS? Beyond in a 12 tm keeper?

Paul Sporer: I do buy this version. One of my favorite things about him was his SB potential w/MIL

Kelly Criterion: Will we know Turner is out for the year if / when the Nats trade for a shortstop?

Paul Sporer: If they do, I think that’d be a sign, yes

James: How much of Kelvin Herrera’s woes deserve to be blamed on him? 21.1% HR/FB rate!

Paul Sporer: He contributes to that, though. A HR/FB rate isn’t just a luck-o-meter. He’s serving up meatballs to let it get that high, too.

Paul Sporer: Now it may regress, but I don’t think it just happened to him

John: How do you view F. Mejia  as a major leaguer? Love the hit tool, the C eligibility, and the fact that no one of note is blocking him. Up this year?

Paul Sporer: I don’t f with C prospects at all

Paul Sporer: They regularly take longer to develop and just aren’t worth the trouble, IMO

Ryan: Re: Bold Predictions– I get absolutely no fantasy value out of them, but I still greatly enjoy reading both the initial predictions and the follow-up columns.

Paul Sporer: The initial ones are meant to be flags planted in players when they’re positive. For example, I was hyped on Ozuna this year so I tabbed him with a BP and if ppl dug my reasoning, maybe they’d jump on board and move him up their list a little.

Jack : Thoughts on Starlin Castro ROS? Started strong but I’m worried he is reverting to his old ways.

Paul Sporer: It was AVG-based so those breakouts can be tough to bet on, but I don’t think we’re in the panic zone yet

Joe: My Nova and Panik for his Schleber and Lackey in an NL only.  Worth it?

Paul Sporer: Prob just hold

Matt: Paul, why must the fantasy gods frown upon me?  First I lost Trout, then Turner, now Trout comes back and I lose Correa.  On top of that, Britton spent significant time on the DL, Beltre started there and I lost Eaton early on too.

Paul Sporer: Daaaamn. Sometimes it’s just a tough year regardless of how strong the process is

John: Debating keeping Robby Ray or Keuchel for next year (keep forever, no cost difference). Who do you prefer?

Paul Sporer: Think you gotta favor Keuchel with all else equal
