Paul Sporer Baseball Chat – January 26th, 2018

Check out the chat below!

3:01

Paul Sporer: We out here! Let’s talk some baseball!!

3:01

Go Dills!: Cubs need to make a counter move?  What should it be?  Darvish enough?

3:02

Paul Sporer: Projections strongly disagree that they need a counter http://www.fangraphs.com/depthcharts.aspx?position=Standings

3:02

Abomb: Paul! Does an Adam Jones/Taillon/Franklin Perez for Upton/Albies pass the eye test in a dynasty league?

3:02

Paul Sporer: Not for the Upton/Albies giver IMO

3:04

Connor: I would LOVE a Create a Team option in MLB 18 The Show, maybe like an expansion draft mode where you make your own team.

3:04

Paul Sporer: That’d be very cool! I’d just love to see SOME news on 18 at this point

3:04

Jay: Any good tips or research methods you use to get comfortable with stolen base projections for a player? In addition to looking at their history of SBs, I’ve been looking at BsR and Sprint Speed (as well as age) to sort of reassure myself on certain guys being able to attempt steals this year or if I should be leery if they will. Any thoughts on this or tips of your own that might be helpful? Thanks for all the awesome content man!

3:06

Paul Sporer: You can check out Jeff’s latest stuff on it – https://www.fangraphs.com/fantasy/is-stolen-base-rate-predictive-of-an… — but it’s honestly really hard, especially with anyone who isn’t a blazer like Turner or Hamilton

3:06

jumanji: YOU’RE LATE PAUL I’VE … WE’VE BEEN WAITING FOR YOU

3:06

Paul Sporer: My baaaaad

3:06

Quadrangular: Paul, I’d love your take here. final keeper in a 13-team OBP: $20 Thor, $9 Nola, or $5 Pham? Thanks

3:09

Paul Sporer: I think I’d go Pham there. His BB% has always been strong so you should still have a nice OBP even if he regresses more than expected

3:09

Pablo: How do you value Domingo Santana given the Brewers OF logjam. Not likely to move to a better park if dealt, right?

3:09

Paul Sporer: Hard to find a markedly better park, but I think his power plays anywhere so I’m not too worried about him

3:10

Paul Sporer: Estevao, STOPPPPPPPP

3:10

John Stamos: Paul, do you play Ottoneu?

3:10

Paul Sporer: I’m in a league, yes. Only my 2nd year this year, but it’s a lot of fun

3:11

Bern: You think I can get away Ketel Marte as my starting shortstop this year?

3:11

Paul Sporer: NL-only or suuuuuuper deep mixer (20 teams?)

3:11

Questions?: 12 team League is switching from Wins to QS this year and I have a cheap Jon Gray $8.  Is the right plan to throw him back?

3:16

Paul Sporer: I’m not sure why the category shift would make you more inclined to throw him back. $8 isn’t must-keep either way, IMO

3:17

TheIlluminatty: Paul have currently 2nd pick. Mostly likely going Altuve. you think it’s a most to go Ace for a 2 or 3rd pick or i can live with going all offense for first 3 picks?

3:18

Paul Sporer: You can certainly live with 3 bats if you prefer that when it gets back. Honestly with Altuve you can go either way quite comfortably

3:18

Don: Better season in 2018: Mike Clevinger or Luke Weaver?

3:19

Paul Sporer: I’ll go Weaver. As of right now, Clev doesn’t have a guaranteed rotation spot (Tomlin penciled into 5th spot on Roster Resource). That said, I could see CLE making a deal. Actually see them as a nice fit with MIL for Domingo Santana for an arm

3:19

Bly: I have a keeper league auction draft next week that is in year 3. I only have 4 spots to fill and have a lot of cap to spend. However, there aren’t a ton of marquee players available (Braun, Lester, andrus, top closers are atop the list). Do I just overpay for the top guys because I have the money? Should I be looking to trade for keepers with high price tags right now? Or do I walk out of the auction with 4 guys with more upside but also burn $60? I’m just not sure how to move forward.

3:20

Paul Sporer: I’d prefer to acquire higher cost keepers you like than overpay for guys, but there will always be inflation in keeper leagues so if trades don’t work out, you can boost the prices a bit if you’re comfortable with it

3:22

Wes : Do you think Adam Eaton could rebound after the injury last year? Or are you concerned that the knee injury could linger?

3:24

Paul Sporer: It could linger, but I think he will rebound. I expect a solid season out of him

3:25

Mac: Writing an essay on babe Ruth’s impact on American society, would you happen to know any books covering the subject off the top of your head? Thanks!

3:25

Paul Sporer: Not a specific book, but could start here – https://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss_1?url=search-alias%3Daps&field…

3:25

John Doe: How do you value Charlie Blackmon in a contract year for dynasty league purposes? His road numbers are VERY mediocre, so if he signs elsewhere, could he fall out of the top 50 overall next year?

3:26

Paul Sporer: You don’t just take the road numbers of a Coors player and double them to figure out who they might be outside of Colorado. There’s a Coors hangover that impacts their road work. Regardless of where he lands, he’ll be 32 and seemingly running less & less so I’d be looking to move on anyway

3:27

Derek: On paper, who won the Marlins/Brewers trade?

3:28

Paul Sporer: There isn’t always a winner and loser. I get my sites and shows try to frame it that way, but it’s flawed. And with this particular trade, both teams did well. I just don’t see a loser

3:28

Pablo: Just took the plunge and got the PS4 so that I can play MLB the show… I remember they used to have a “rivalry mode” back in the day. Here’s hoping they bring that back.

3:28

Paul Sporer: Yessssss!!!! MLB 18 is just 2 months away!!

3:29

nestle : your chat is trash

3:30

Paul Sporer: I tried to make it as much like your water as possible

3:30

GB: You seem like you would like disc golf.

3:30

Paul Sporer: You’re really bad at assessing people then

3:31

Hack Wilson: H2H Categories, drop one of the following (rd-years): Machado-9-1, Nola-8-3, Rendon-5-3, Berrios-28-3

3:33

Paul Sporer: Probably Nola and I love Nola, but he seems closest to his ADP. Actually Rendon is probably closer, but I’d rather bet on the hitter between those two. As much as I love Nola, he’s yet to put up a 30-start season

3:34

Oddball Herrera: Is Hoskins special enough to overcome the fact that there are a LOT of home runs to be found late round at his eligible position(s)?

3:37

Paul Sporer: The later HRs are usually flawed, though. Projections have him at mid-30s with ~100 RBI, ~90 R, and a .260 AVG. And projections are often conservative. I understand waiting in the 1B pool, but I’m fine with Hoskins’ upper tier price

3:37

Dennis: Thanks for the chat, Paul! Would you roll with Matt Carpenter as your starting 1B in a 20 team mixed, 5 x 5 head to head OBP league?

3:38

Paul Sporer: No problem, thanks for coming! I’m still a little nervous about his shoulder so I’d like to see him in ST, but in a 20 tm’r I’m OK gambling, espec. OBP

3:38

Kooter: Does Nomar Mazara start crushing this year?

3:38

Paul Sporer: I think so. I’m very excited about his ’18

3:40

Dave: Keep 5 league. Have Trea at SS; would you use a last keeper on Bogaerts (who would have to play UT) or Wil Myers, assuming equal cost?

3:43

Paul Sporer: Hmmmmmmmmm. I kinda dig Bogy, but I gotta go Myers. His SB success has me thinking he’ll continue to run

3:43

Sim: How do you feel about Ozuna this year? His BABIP was inflated so do you think he can eclipse .300 again?

3:47

Paul Sporer: I don’t think it was over the top given how hard he hits the ball, but he probably won’t hit .338 on groundballs again so I’d have him around .280-.290

3:47

Quadrangular: do you like this move for Yelich? seems like this could contribute to some HRs regardless of his low flyball%

3:48

Paul Sporer: It’s impossible not to like it. Just moving lineups in a similar park would be huge let alone the fact that he’s moving to best left-handed power park out there. I stupidly said he was right-handed on the pod yesterday, but he of course isn’t so this move is even better

3:48

GB: How many more good years (~3 WAR or better) does Verlander have in him?

3:48

Paul Sporer: 2

3:48

Guest: If you had Kershaw & deGrom in a k/bb, h/ip & era pitching league.. would you muck it up with Sean Newcomb?

3:49

Paul Sporer: I mean, ya gotta muck it up with somebody in those later rounds and they certainly give you cushion to gamble on someone like him. While Newk walks too many, he does at least get Ks, too.

3:49

Chad: Hey Paul! Love your chats and articles man! Anything good to say on Dillon Peters? Will he stay in the awful MIA rotation and have any success this year? Weird pitcher

3:51

Paul Sporer: Thanks so much! The only good thing I can really say at this point is that he should get a chance. I can’t imagine putting him on any team this year, though. We discussed him on the pod late last season – http://www.fangraphs.com/fantasy/the-sleeper-and-the-bust-episode-494-…

3:51

Dennis: How valuable is Andrew Miller in a 20 team head to head mixed league that has Saves Plus 0.5 Holds as a category in addition to W+QS, ERA, WHIP, and K? I have him for the next two years and I’m thinking he has some extra value because he might sign as a closer this coming off-season.

3:56

Paul Sporer: He’s pretty valuable w/that Hold inclusion plus as you mention perhaps moving into a closer’s role next year. The thing is, he’s so good that he’s valuable in all leagues

3:56

Devil’s Advocate: There’s an awful lot of Bogaerts hate for a 25 yr old with a high BA floor in a good lineup, no? What if Alex Cora helps his power return to form?

3:56

Paul Sporer: Fulllllyyyy agree. Wanted to pick him in that Bogy/Myers question, but think Myers is better at UT.

3:56

Dilly Dilly: How highly would you rank Luis Castillo of the Reds and no more pitchers guide from you?

3:58

Paul Sporer: I’ve got him early-30s. And no SPG this year, but I did write up the pitchers for the Fantasy Black Book!

3:59

Morbo: Hi Paul

3:59

Paul Sporer: Hi Morbo

3:59

Luke: Estevao comes into every single chat and tries to pump out his articles, go home bro

3:59

Paul Sporer: I know, he’s been doing it for a while. He’s the literal worst. A guide on what NOT to do as someone starting to write about baseball

4:00

Daniel Castro: Have you come around on me yet? No foolsy, I’m so toolsy! I’ll make Rockies fans ask, “DJ LeMa-who?”

4:00

Paul Sporer: lol

4:02

Zock Jr.: Hey, Paul! Hearing your phone receive the lorenzo cain news was the highlight of the offseason.

4:03

Paul Sporer: LOL, that was so nuts! For those unaware, check out the first few minutes of the latest pod – https://www.fangraphs.com/fantasy/the-sleeper-and-the-bust-episode-518…

4:03

99: Any chance Tyler Lyons gets to close in STL this year?

4:04

Paul Sporer: It’s possible. Gregerson never really seems to get full on confidence of teams so maybe Lyons get a look.

4:04

GB: Is Cole Hamels done? Traded for him in an 18 team mixed dynasty in 2nd half of 2015.  K% last year was garbage but velo seemed fine enough.

4:08

Paul Sporer: Ya I’m reluctant to completely write him off. 2017 is the clear outlier right now, but he’s also turning 34. I won’t project a full bounce back to low-to-mid 20s%, but I think he’ll at least add a couple ticks back to ~19%

4:08

resumeman: In the last couple years, you have put little analytical blurbs at the top of each player’s page during the preseason. Will you be doing those again? I found them very helpful. If so, when will they be posted? Thanks

4:08

Paul Sporer: Yes we will! Those will be coming in early-Feb!!

4:08

Dungeon Master: 6×6 mixed H2H, I can keep Jimmy Nelson very cheap for 2 years, but I have to commit a roster spot for the full 2 years, should I do it?

4:09

Paul Sporer: Eeek, that’s tough when he’s slated to miss a half a year off the top. I’ll say no. Maybe buy him back in draft at a cheaper price?

4:09

Bob Villar: Chris Taylor or Ozzie Albies?

4:09

Paul Sporer: Two of my faves! Gotta go Albies as he’s a good bit cheaper

4:09

Dan Gleeballs: Who has a better 2018: Knebel or Rivero?

4:10

Paul Sporer: Have them REALLY close, but I’ll go Knebel as I have MIL > PIT right now

4:10

Ricky Knile: I get one keeper – Correa or Goldschmidt?

4:10

Paul Sporer: Correa for me

4:10

<Demonic Wail>: 12 team h2h keep 7 dynasty, have a chance to maybe get Gary Sanchez back for Kluber, but leaves me with no pitching in a year where Im expected to be a top 3 team. Do you still pull the trigger?

4:12

Paul Sporer: I feel like Kluber is better for H2H

4:12

Bobby: Am I crazy to keep Torres over Ray?

4:13

Paul Sporer: Depends on league set up, of course, but I could see it in the right scenario

4:13

Daniel Castro: P.S. Much love from the Daniel Castro Fan Club!

4:13

Paul Sporer: ty!

4:13

El: Any thoughts on Addison Russell or Marcus Semien in an OBP league?

4:14

Paul Sporer: I’ve been a big Addy fan from jump street, but I think Semien is the better fantasy play right now. Both are OBP liabilities so gimme Semien’s SB

4:14

Bob Villar: Machado for Lamb/Thor, which side?

4:14

Paul Sporer: That’s really fair. Thing I’d go MM, but can’t hate on either side

4:15

GB: Texas won’t really stick with Mike Minor as SP right? Sleeper CL candidate?

4:15

Paul Sporer: So surprised they’re even trying it. I love him for an Andrew Miller role, tbh. Kela is my CL target in TEX

4:17

Matt: hey paul, picked up the blackbook, really like your analysis there, thanks! i am, however, missing the mechanics analysis that use to come with SP Guide -> any suggestions on where that type of pitcher analysis could be found?

4:17

Paul Sporer: That was from Doug Thorburn! I’m not sure if he’s doing anything this year, but you can hit him up on Twitter – https://twitter.com/doug_thorburn

4:17

Sporer Big Shot: Paul – When are you doing another Pod with Gill Alexander?

4:18

Paul Sporer: LOL that name… Hoping to chat with Gill in Feb/Mar in the lead up to the season

4:18

Chris: keeper forever:  JD, Springer or Moncada?

4:18

Paul Sporer: Ooh that’s tough. I know Moncada is the youngest and might be obvious for some, but I think I’d go Springer

4:18

Minty: OBP/QS trade Hoskins for Ray if my offense is already good?

4:18

Paul Sporer: Ya that works

4:19

Luis Castillo: Am I the next Johnny Cueto?

4:19

Paul Sporer: Probably not. Cueto never threw that hard on avg

4:19

PHIL : Rich hill is mt NL only ace? Can I live with that ?

4:19

Paul Sporer: No, you need a lot of backup. Can’t have a 120 IP ace.

4:19

TIM : Domingo Santana for Danny Salazar ? Who says nah?

4:20

Paul Sporer: Ya I’ve been seeing that float around. Initial thoughts are that CLE would need to add a solid secondary piece, too

4:20

GB: You been to Hamilton Pool?

4:20

Paul Sporer: Only once

4:21

Hotshot: Any chance Lorenzen starts?

4:21

Paul Sporer: Unlikely. He seems best served with multi-inning RP stints

4:21

ChicagoCardinal: What are your thoughts on Morrow. I’ve got a decent trade offer but am really worried about his bust potential. If a normal pitcher is 50% bust rate where would you put Morrow?

4:21

Paul Sporer: If normal is 50%, he’s gotta be like 69% which in this case isn’t nice. Love the raw stuff, but definitely worry about health, especially after a heavy October workload

4:21

John M.: What do you think about MLB The Show adding the WBC? It would be awesome in RTTS and Franchise mode.

4:22

Paul Sporer: It’d be pretty cool, but it’s not a top priority

4:22

Cheese: Keep forever league – Need to pick 2 between Pollock, Conforto, Mazara, Pham & Thames.  THANKS PAUL!

4:22

Paul Sporer: Maz and Pham. Just too worried about Conforto’s shoulder rn

4:23

Colin: Will Fangraphs have ATC projections this year?  If so, do you have an ETA?

4:23

Paul Sporer: Yes, we will. Soon. I’ll remind the folks who handle that stuff this wknd

4:23

Bobopedia: do you think a .300 180 rs+rbis 25 home run season is possible from Justin Turner?

4:24

Paul Sporer: If he can log 150 games, absolutely. But that’s the perfect world projection IMO

4:24

Paul Sporer: brb – taking Charlotte out

4:34

Morbo: Derek, Scott Boras might have won the Marlins Brewers trade

4:34

Paul Sporer: lol

4:36

Lying Season: The lead up to the NFL draft is often called “Lying Season”. Will this be a new nickname for the Room Temperature Stove?

4:37

Paul Sporer: This one is basically an Ice Stove… whatever the hell that would be

4:37

fresh basil: I’ve worn pants for approximate 90 seconds over the last two days. Just enough time to meet the pizza guy.

4:37

Paul Sporer: You’re livin right!

4:38

Seth: MIL- Patrick Corbin and Brandon Drury                                                  ARI- Domingo Santana                    What do you think?

4:38

Paul Sporer: That’s not a bad proposal

4:38

olive: Stanton and Judge: over or under 100 homers?

4:38

Paul Sporer: Under — 87

4:38

Rip Boberts: Erasmo Ramirez for Domingo Santana?

4:39

Paul Sporer: They’d need a lot more to give Santana

4:39

Desperate, confused Marlins fan: huge MLB the show guy here, any tips on how to improve my DD team?

4:39

Paul Sporer: For this year, your best bet is finish Conquest and then do the Event for the Pujols & Trout. I don’t know what your team looks like or how many stubs you have, but that’d be my start

4:40

BK: You people need to stop talking about Gohara so us Braves fans can stash him

4:42

Paul Sporer: LOL, sorrryyyy!!! His high pick at NFBC is still 241 so that’s pretty good

4:42

Lougle: When do the Sprorer SP ranks come out?

4:42

Paul Sporer: Updated ranks next week

4:43

toki: What will the enigma that is Chad Green accomplish this year?

4:44

Paul Sporer: I think his role is more enigmatic than Green himself. I see a 110-inning swingman sorta season

4:44

overrated: Mazara = Polanco.  Production will never match the hype

4:46

Paul Sporer: Based on what? Maz has two essentially league avg seasons at ages 21 and 22. He’s just getting started. Polanco’s issues have been health-related with that shoulder.

4:46

BK: how valuable is billy hamilton in an NL only 11 team 4×4?

4:46

Paul Sporer: Very?

4:46

Colin: Does Alcides Escobar block Raul Mondesi at SS?

4:46

Paul Sporer: Did they re-sign him?

4:47

Paul Sporer: Nvm, just saw that they did. Ya it doesn’t help Mondesi, that’s for sure

4:47

CD: Orlando Arcia. Sneaky upside play this year? What do you think about him long-term?

4:49

Paul Sporer: Yes, I think he is. Very intriguing player going forward, too, espec if they turn him loose on the bases

4:49

FL IBWIP: Yo Paul. Loved  the Podcast yesterday. Any thoughts on Arcia value moving up because of Yelich and Cain?

4:50

Paul Sporer: Thanks so much! As you can see above, I dig Arcia!

4:50

J Cueto: Velocity huh? I bet Luis Castillo never threw a karate kick on the field!

4:50

Paul Sporer: Thankfully

4:50

toki: Do you think that Swanson is over-hyped from a fantasy standpoint?  I mean seriously the guy steals as many bases and, has as much pop as Tommy La Stella with worse plate discipline.

4:50

Paul Sporer: Last year he was. This year he’s a complete afterthought.

4:51

Jim: Traded Harper/Bum for Machado/Hoskins/Acuna after you suggested I do so. I think I did well but I’m nervous!

4:51

Paul Sporer: I like that move, I really do. Tough to move Harpsicle, but you got a nice return

4:52

BDay: Hey Paul, it’s my birthday today and also happens to be out bidding day in a full keeper dynasty (great birthday present!). We are a 12 teamer with $200 budget and people are throwing all $200 at ohtabi, is that crazy or should I be going all in too?

4:52

Paul Sporer: Happy birthday! Wait, so it’s a $200 budget to add players to your already-made rosters? If everyone bids $200, who gets him?

4:52

Mike: Do you think the chances of Profar not being stuck in Texas for the season are high enough to consider him as a keeper in a dynasty league over a Ben Gamel type player?

4:54

Paul Sporer: Nah, I think I’d keep Gamel

4:54

Chet: Paul, Please choose two: Willie Calhoun ($8), Marwin ($8) or Josh Bell at $9.  Thanks!

4:54

Paul Sporer: Nice trio. I’m going Calhoun, Marwin

4:54

Mr. Blister: Thoughts on Aaron Sanchez? Keep in Otto @ $12? Thanks

4:55

Paul Sporer: I *feel* like he might go cheaper if you threw him back. At worst, I could see him going $12 again

4:55

Jon Dowd: Do you

4:55

Paul Sporer: I do not

4:55

Jay: If Trea Turner is the most expensive hitter on my fantasy team, my draft went ___?

4:55

Paul Sporer: Just find I’d imagine. He’s a legit 1st round pick.

4:55

Jon Dowd: What pitchers do you see making the leap into the top 15?

4:56

Paul Sporer: I’ll be writing an article on that later this winter!

4:56

toki: Why does everyone in my league hate the idea of trading for Josh Donaldson?

4:56

Paul Sporer: Fantasy baseball is quite ageist

4:56

Paul Sporer: No one wants to be holding the 30-something who declines so they’re treated like hot potatoes at the first sign of trouble

4:57

Bobopedia: Nola injury concerns are overplayed. One elbow injury and one back injury in his career, not sure why he gets talked about as a ticking time bomb

4:57

Paul Sporer: Not really. They’re played appropriately. It’s not like he’s going way late bc of them. He’s a top 70 pick.

4:57

Bobopedia: Nola started 31 times in 2015

4:58

Paul Sporer: I meant MLB, of course

4:58

Alan Trammell: Is a 60/40% or even 70/30% pitcher/hitter budget split crazy in this environment? The teams in my league are going with big offenses and maybe an ace and a top reliever. I want to build a big staff and roll the dice on offense…am I crazy?

4:59

Paul Sporer: It’s not crazy. Zigging can work when everyone is zagging or vice versa… however that phrase goes, but there’s so much volatility in pitching bc of these HR totals that it could go sideways quickly. I like trying new things, though!

4:59

Yikes: You average a question about every 2 minutes, get an answer clock on this guy!

4:59

Paul Sporer: Cry about it some more.

4:59

Danny: Berrios (no round) or McCullers (10th round)?

4:59

Paul Sporer: Berrios for sure

4:59

DJ: Does the promise of a humidor at Chase take out the fear of tying fantasy championship hopes to Greinke and Godley?  Castillo, Weaver, Godley–which ones to keep of 2?

5:00

Paul Sporer: Is it promised? It seems to be rumored and speculated upon regularly, but I haven’t seen confirmation that it’ll be there. That said, I’m fine taking those pitchers even if it isn’t installed. Castillo and Godley for me.

5:00

Nathan: Most improved team this offseason so far? And who do you think will be most improved by the end?

5:00

Paul Sporer: LAA and probably still LAA

5:00

Toddrey Jeff: Do you think Scott Van Slyke has a decent chance of making the Marlins roster from Spring Training?

5:01

Paul Sporer: Sure… didn’t even know what there, but just about anyone with a pulse could make their roster

5:01

fresh basil: Calm down Yikes

5:01

Paul Sporer: Seriously

5:01

Aaron nola’s Taint: Are you drafting your first SP within 3 rounds this year?

5:01

Paul Sporer: Ya in some leagues

5:01

BDay: Re: Ohtani question/$200 bid. It’s reverse standings waiver order from last year. I’m guessing your answer means I should be all in

5:01

Paul Sporer: OK, cool. Then ya, I’m fine goin the $200 as I’m sure the pool of players is thin and he’s far and away the best available

5:01

Pie: Do you think Familia holds onto the lolMets closer job?

5:02

Paul Sporer: I’d favor him, yes, but Ramos is a solid backup plan

5:02

Stan: Carlos Rodon or Clint Frazier as my 13th keeper in an AL only Scoresheet league?

5:02

Paul Sporer: Frazier. I like Rodon but he just can’t stay healthy

5:02

Oddball Herrera: Mazara – career 51 wRC+ against lefties.  That number can imrpve, sure, but on a team that will apparently have more players than ABs to go around, you don’t want a guy who’s obviously platoonable

5:05

Paul Sporer: Why not? The number of 600+ PA seasons is dwindling so it’s not like you can’t roster platoon-potential guys in mixed leagues. Fair concern that he hasn’t hit lefties, but I’m not writing off a 23-year old with the talent he’s shown thus far

5:05

Guest: king felix worth $10 in an al only this yr? btw would love to see auction values on fangraphs

5:07

Paul Sporer: Ehhh, I think I need him in single digits to take the shot. Check out our Auction Calculator! http://www.fangraphs.com/auctiontool.aspx

5:08

shoheiotani: Will Dinelson Lamet get lefties out this year?

5:09

Paul Sporer: Probably not without developing a pitch to do so.

Joe: Doolittle $19 & Barraclough $3 for Rivero $5 in NL only?

5:10

Paul Sporer: ya, I’m in with that

5:10

Stan: Love the chats.

5:10

Paul Sporer: ty!

5:10

Jazzflute: Does Gohora earn a rotation spot out of camp?

5:11

Paul Sporer: Probably not after they added those grandpas in the Kemp deal, plus they can protect some service time

5:11

Anna Benson: It’s early but where are you digging drafting from in mocks you’ve been in?

5:11

Paul Sporer: Late, the first round is super deep. Prefer to be on one of the ends

5:12

Guest: Does Ryan Braun have more value as a first baseman or Right Fielder?

5:12

Paul Sporer: Probably OF

5:12

STL: What’s the outlook for Jack Flaherty in 2018? I enjoyed Eno’s piece on his slider, but would he be worth $4 in FGPts in Ottoneu?

5:12

Paul Sporer: $4 isn’t too bad for his upside

5:12

Rollie’s Mustache: Do you believe the projections on Cotton this year or is there more run prevention upside?

5:13

Paul Sporer: I understand the projections after last year’s disaster, but I see upside and he’s basically free so I’m buying back in

5:14

Guest: teoscar hernandez looked pretty good at end of last yr, any thoughts on him coming into this yr?

5:14

Paul Sporer: They keep getting OF in TOR to push him lower lol

5:14

fresh basil: Most rosterable Pirates starting pitcher will be…..

5:14

Paul Sporer: Taillon

5:15

Michelle: Is Josh Bell keepable at @ $8 in 9 Team NL only (with deep benches, 45 man rosters)? How about David Peralta at $7?

5:16

Paul Sporer: Yes, I think both are keepable at those costs in an NL-only. I really like both bats. Think I’d lean Peralta if forced to choose

5:16

DEA: “Ice Stove” sounds like a meth lab.

5:16

Paul Sporer: :nervously looks around: heh, ya it sure does… definitely just randomly made that up… don’t have an Ice Stove of my own… heh :runs away:

5:16

Quadrangular: best case scenario for Acuña long term is…. AJ Pollock?

5:17

Paul Sporer: No. Best case is substantially higher.

5:17

Quadrangular: bigger concern for Price in ’18: declining health or skills?

5:17

Paul Sporer: Oh health for sure, his skills were essentially identical to previous years

5:18

Paul Sporer: OK y’all, I gotta roll! Thanks for coming out! You can follow me on Twitter (@sporer), Snapchat (psporer), and Twitch (psporer24)! I’ll be streaming some baseball later tonight, too!

5:18

Paul Sporer: Have a great weekend!
