Note: Any noted rostership rates come from the NFBC RotoWire Online Championship, the same rates we use on the FanGraphs Player Rater. For reference, these leagues are 12-team Roto leagues with 30-man rosters (2 C, 1B, 2B, SS, 3B, MI, CI, 5 OF, UT, 9 P) and weekly add/drops. This rate can be compared to other rostership rates found in this article. Additionally, I’ve explained why I like to focus on OPS to evaluate hitters in this article.

American League

Angels

Jorge Soler might not DH as often with Mike Trout off the IL. Trout might also cut into Jose Siri’s playing time.

Vaughn Grissom (vs LHP) and Nolan Schanuel (vs RHP) might be in a first base platoon.

Astros

LaMonte Wade Jr. (vs RHP) and Zach Dezenzo (vs LHP) form a left field platoon.

Brice Matthews (.590 OPS) started the last three games in center field.

Athletics

• The lineup has been a mess, and now Zack Gelof is hurt.

• On Thursday, Joshua Kuroda-Grauer (.987 OPS) hit leadoff and has started in nine straight games. While he’s qualified at shortstop on most websites, he’s played four games at each second and short, so he could get qualified at both soon.

Lawrence Butler (vs RHP) and Colby Thomas (vs LHP) form a right field platoon.

Blue Jays

Ernie Clement (748 OPS) and Nathan Lukes (.738 OPS) are batting 1-2.

Sean Keys started seven straight games (four as the DH), but may be headed to the bench with George Springer off the IL.

• Since being promoted, Jonatan Clase (.680 OPS with 17 SB in AAA) started the last two games in left field.

Guardians

Gabriel Arias (.675 OPS, 5 HR) started in only three of the last five games, twice against lefties – both of the games he sat were against RHP.

Mariners

• With Julio Rodríguez on the IL for a concussion, Victor Robles (.517 OPS, 6 SB) started six straight games in center field.

Orioles

Blaze Alexander (.773 OPS, 3 HR, 9 SB) with nine straight starts.

Jackson Holliday (.710 OPS) started twice in the last four games.

Rangers

• It’s tough to know how the bottom pieces will fit together with Josh Jung and Wyatt Langford returning to the lineup. At least Nicky Lopez is no longer a factor.

Alejandro Osuna (.653 OPS, 1% rostered) started in nine of the last ten games.

Rays

• Over the last three games, Jonny DeLuca (.735 OPS), Victor Mesa Jr. (.661 OPS), and Ryan Vilade (.763 OPS) have each started in right field.

Red Sox

Brett Harris (3 PA) started at first base with Willson Contreras serving his suspension.

Andruw Monasterio (.629 OPS) and Tsung-Che Cheng (.638 OPS) split time at shortstop.

Royals

Nick Loftin (.775 OPS, 4 HR) started in eight of the last nine games.

Tyler Tolbert (.907 OPS) started in four straight games at three different positions (RF, 2B, SS).

Tigers

• It’s tough to find any value on this team. Lots of platoons and time shares. I do see that Zach McKinstry (.593 OPS) started in 18 straight games.

Twins

• With Byron Buxton on the IL, Alan Roden (8 PA) started the last two games in the outfield.

Ryan Kreidler (.757 OPS, 7% rostered) started in nine of the last 10 games.

White Sox

• With a couple of players changing positions, Luisangel Acuña (vs LHP) and Jacob Gonzalez (vs LHP) form a platoon. It will likely go away with Munetaka Murakami off the IL.

Yankees

Paul Goldschmidt and Anthony Volpe have only started in six of the last 10 games.

Trent Grisham (.750 OPS, 9 HR, 7 SB) is leading off.

National League

Braves

Michael Harris II hit leadoff in the last four games.

Jim Jarvis (.778 OPS) started in four of the last five games.

Dominic Smith (.709 OPS) starts against righties.

Brewers

• With David Hamilton on the IL, Joey Ortiz (.594 OPS) started the last four games at third base.

• Since being promoted, Luis Lara started in two of three games after posting a .902 OPS in AAA.

Cardinals

Lars Nootbaar (.749 OPS) started in just four of the last eight games.

José Fermín (.721 OPS, 4 HR, 3 SB, 3% rostered) started in eight straight games.

Cubs

Michael Conforto (vs RHP) and Kevin Alcántara (vs LHP) are in a DH/RF platoon.

Diamondbacks

Gabriel Moreno started 10 straight games, with three coming as the DH.

Dodgers

Tommy Edman (.922 OPS, 88% rostered) started in just six of the last 10 games.

Giants

Victor Bericoto (.857 OPS, 4 HR in 59 PA) started in seven of the last 10 games. He’s stealing playing time from Drew Gilbert (.694 OPS).

Marlins

• The outfielders are tough to roster because only Jakob Marsee starts every game. Owen Caissie is on the IL, so someone may end up with more playing time.

Mets

Jorge Polanco started in two of three games at DH since coming off the IL

Jared Young might see more time at first base with Mark Vientos on the IL.

Nationals

Nasim Nuñez (.628 OPS, 33 SB) with just two starts in the last four games. Jorbit Vivas (.677 OPS) starts instead.

Padres

Sung-Mun Song (.595 OPS) started five straight games.

Samad Taylor (.808 OPS, 6 SB) no longer starts every game, with just three starts in the last nine games.

Phillies

Gabriel Rincones Jr. (vs RHP) and Derek Hill (vs LHP) form a right field platoon.

Pirates

Tyler Callihan (.825 OPS, 3 HR) started in four of the last five games at three different positions (1B, 2B, OF).

Jake Mangum (.744 OPS, 18 SB), with eight straight starts, hit leadoff in the last three games.

Jared Triolo (.609 OPS, 6 SB) started three straight games at shortstop with Konnor Griffin on the IL.

Reds

• With Matt McLain (.622 OPS) on the IL, expect Edwin Arroyo (.580 OPS) to get a long run at second base.

TJ Friedl (.520 OPS) started five straight games in centerfield.

Rockies

Kyle Karros (.795 OPS, 8 HR) has moved up the lineup, batting either second or fifth depending on the pitcher’s handedness.

Willi Castro (.722 OPS, 7 HR, 6 SB) started in only six of the last 10 games.

Karros – is this legit? Even doing some damage on the road over the last week…

1066 OPS over the last 31 days, not including today’s HR.

I said last week here in the comments that Karros is a great addition. The Rockies have several weeks in the 2nd half where they play all of their games at home, so even if you just use him as a streamer you will likely get some big weeks. If it’s the case that this guy has turned a corner and is a set-it-and-forget-it guy, well that’s icing on the already useful cake.
