Drafts are in full swing and now I am 10 drafts into the season, here are my current ranks for the shortstop position for 2021. I will post updates every 2-4 weeks as things change with signings, injuries, or news in Major League Baseball.
Justin Mason’s Top 50 Shortstops: 2/10/2021
Rk | Player | Team | Position(s) | ADP | Notes |
---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Fernando Tatis Jr. | SD | SS | 2.42 | My #1 hitter this year |
| Trea Turner | WAS | SS | 7.17 | I think you can argue he should be a top 3 pick. |
| Trevor Story | COL | SS | 11.21 | Love Story, but the team around him is going to be bad |
| Francisco Lindor | NYM | SS | 16.77 | Move to New York is nice in spite of park downgrade. |
| Adalberto Mondesi | KC | SS | 19.85 | Boom or Bust, but I am here for it. |
| Xander Bogaerts | BOS | SS | 35.54 | Is anyone safer than Xander? |
| Bo Bichette | TOR | SS | 23.52 | The more I think about it, the more I am wanting to fade the price. |
| Tim Anderson | CWS | SS | 38.88 | I don’t know how he keeps hitting for high averages, but at some point I guess he keeps proving he can. |
| Corey Seager | LAD | SS | 40.52 | Skills are fire, but I still worry about injury risk. |
| Gleyber Torres | NYY | SS | 69.13 | Should bounceback after lackluster 2020 |
| Javier Baez | CHC | SS | 69.38 | Getting to watch video in game again should help him bounceback. |
| Marcus Semien | TOR | SS | 141.15 | Love the move to Toronto! |
| Dansby Swanson | ATL | SS | 100.21 | We have had our differences in the past, but I am willing to draft him now. |
| Tommy Edman | STL | 2B, 3B, SS, OF | 126.02 | I think there is enough pop and speed with a great flexibility. |
| Carlos Correa | HOU | SS | 130.79 | I still believe the talent is there, but is the health? |
| Andres Gimenez | CLE | 2B, 3B, SS | 153.79 | Cleveland is a great landing spot for Gimenez. |
| Didi Gregorius | PHI | SS | 177.65 | Resigning in Philly was one of the best spots for him. |
| Ha-seong Kim | SD | SS | 166.15 | Crowded situation in San Diego has me worried about playing time. |
| Paul DeJong | STL | SS | 215.63 | I am willing to overlook 2020 because it was such a weird season for the Cardinals. |
| Jorge Polanco | MIN | SS | 209.27 | Addition of Simmons and move to second base make me a bit worried about his playing time if he struggles at all. |
| Amed Rosario | CLE | SS | 228.75 | Love the move to Cleveland for his playing time. |
| Chris Taylor | LAD | 2B, SS, OF | 228.27 | Taylor always seems to outproduce his ADP and he should play close to everyday. |
| Willy Adames | TB | SS | 318.56 | At worst, he is a compiler, but I think there is more there. |
| Jonathan Villar | NYM | 2B, SS | 150.88 | Awful landing spot for Villar makes it hard to draft him. |
| Elvis Andrus | OAK | SS | 433.37 | Love the landing spot in Oakland and I think he will be undervalued this year. |
| Niko Goodrum | DET | 2B, SS | 370.1 | There is power and speed here, but the batting average is a concern. |
| Isiah Kiner-Falefa | TEX | 3B, SS | 287.02 | Locked into playing time now. |
| Jake Cronenworth | SD | 1B, 2B, SS | 189.85 | Until we know the DH is coming, he doesn’t have a place to play regularly. |
| David Fletcher | LAA | 2B, 3B, SS | 221.87 | Going to lead off, but has no power or speed. |
| J.P. Crawford | SEA | SS | 375.44 | Led off in every game he played after July 28th |
| Mauricio Dubon | SF | 2B, SS, OF | 275.38 | I think he will play a lot, but he is a future utility guy. |
| Wander Franco | TB | SS | 311.35 | The question isn’t talent. It is when he will arrive |
| Willi Castro | DET | 3B, SS | 251.25 | Showed more pop than I thought was there and less speed. Don’t know what to expect here. |
| Nick Ahmed | ARZ | SS | 351.17 | Defense lets him compile |
| Miguel Rojas | MIA | SS | 367.37 | Could be a 10/10 guy with a decent average. |
| Nico Hoerner | CHC | 2B, SS | 405.23 | Could accumulate in Chicago. |
| Joey Wendle | TB | 2B, 3B, SS | 306.23 | Strong side platoon is still a platoon. |
| Orlando Arcia | MLW | SS | 446.19 | Still young enough to put it all together. |
| Jazz Chisholm | MIA | 2B, SS | 437.29 | There is power and speed, but will he strike out too much. |
| Freddy Galvis | BAL | 2B, SS | 489.15 | Could compile just by playing every day. |
| Luis Urias | MLW | 2B, 3B, SS | 376.69 | Should play every day, but bats at the bottom. |
| Jose Iglesias | LAA | SS | 400.21 | Not going to repeat 2020, but could have deep league value. |
| Andrelton Simmons | MIN | SS | 412.96 | Will play every day, but I don’t think that matters much |
| Brandon Crawford | SF | SS | 495.35 | 80 grade hair. |
| Erik Gonzalez | PIT | 3B, SS | 540.44 | Will play everyday in Pittsburgh, but there is limited upside. |
| Oneil Cruz | PIT | SS | 713.27 | When will he be up? |
| Kevin Newman | PIT | 2B, SS | 469.88 | No place to play at the moment |
| Pat Valaika | BAL | 1B, 2B, SS | 491.33 | weak side platoon player |
| Royce Lewis | MIN | SS | 612.75 | Blocked again |
| Jose Garcia | CIN | SS | 591.6 | Needs more minor league time. |
