Nate: How much higher would you have taken Bryce Harper in drafts had you known he’d beat his return timetable by almost 3 months?

Justin Mason: I think I would have taken him in the top 100.

I have been destroyed by injuries to my MI (Seager, Lux, Rodgers, Arcia) and am getting nothing from the replacements. I don’t want to move Judge but am considering an offer of Judge for Pasquantino (could definitely use CI help, too) and B. Lowe?

Not enough value in return, am I asking for too much, or about right?

Justin Mason: I can understand making that move, but that is really tough. I think you aren’t getting quite enough

pat burrell’s ghost: dear justin! in a 6×6 (+obp) 12 team redraft, which OF would you rather target for a trade: kelenic/buxton/bellinger, and if possible can you add a why?

Justin Mason: I think I want Kelenic. The ceiling is just so damn high and we are already seeing it.

Guest: Would you keep Jeremiah Estrada in a holds league?

Justin Mason: I think I would for now.

Ed: Any thoughts on Yelich so far? The counting stats are alright but the K rate is nearly 30%

Justin Mason: I think that is an aberration. Swinging strike rate is only 12.5%

Guest: Do you think Rasmussen will have more good starts than bad?

Justin Mason: I do. I am a big fan

Justin Mason: Good time to remind everyone to give your league context. League size and format

TribeToTheEnd: How quickly do you re-evaluate prospects in a dynasty league based on a hot start to the season? Realize there’s a ton of factors in play, but does (for example) a month of 200 wrc+ from a FV45 outweigh an average start from a FV50 at the same age / level?

Justin Mason: I think now that we can get stat cast data more regularly, we can be bit more aggressive with reevaluating.  I think a month in we can begin the process

Colton: Good morning! Thanks for the chat! I’m considering picking up Mason Miller in a H2H points, dynasty format league for Lance Lynn. Would you do that? League is heavily weighted to pitchers who get strikeouts in bunches

Justin Mason: I don’t think I would do that personally, but I can understand wanting to.

Guy in my league is wanting my Webb for his Stott. I can use MI bad but don’t feel the value is equal. My Webb for his Hoerner more even?

Justin Mason: Webb for Hoerner is more fair. Stott is good but not Webb good.

DH: Hey Justin! Any thoughts on Ben Brown? Looking at his stats in AA, he looks like he’s more or less pulling an Andrew Abbott and just got called to AAA Iowa. Do you think he, like Abbott, may have fantasy relevance this summer?

Justin Mason: To be quite honest, I don’t know enough about him to guide you properly.

Fleur de (Ado)Lis: Spent a LOT of FAAB for Bibee, Perdomo and Wade Jr.  But other than OF I have a pretty solid core so feel good about it.  What’s the point of having FAAB if you don’t use it, right?

Justin Mason: I don’t like spending large amounts of FAAB this yearly in the season, but I did yesterday because I need pitching so badly.

1B Dilemma: I have to activate Tim Anderson and I’m between cutting Josh Bell and Josh Naylor. Naylor can’t hit lefties, but I feel that I should drop Bell because I think Naylor has more upside?

Justin Mason: I’d drop Naylor

I Used to be Mel Clark: Please help me keep my expectations for Bibee in check.

Justin Mason: I will do no such thing.

Justin Mason: It is so hard to predict when Rays guys will be up. I think Curtis Mead comes up before Kyle Mazardo as well.

Justin Mason: Right now it is Lynn, but that may change in a few weeks by the time Glasnow is actually back.

Dave: (1C/12 team mixed league) Is Jonah Heim “for real” enough, that I should try to trade Sal Perez for help at another position of need?

Justin Mason: Plate skills and statcast data are really nice. I am buying.

Justin Mason: So yes, I would move Sal for another need.

Underrated/Overrated: My two biggest trade targets were George Springer and Starling Marte and I flipped Kris Bryant for Starling Marte straight up. It looks like Kris Bryant barely has 20 HR power in a bad line-up so I’m looking to move him. This evaluation feel right?

Ry: Really want to add bibee in a 10 team h2h league. Would you drop mikolas or Wesneski for him? Could possibly drop o.arcia coming off IL

Justin Mason: In AL only, you need anyone with a pulse. Both should play a lot because the A’s suck and Moncada might be toast with his back issue.

Newby: Should I put Ohtani in my lineup as a pitcher or hitter for the best value?

Justin Mason: Mostly hitter unless you have a two start, short week for the Angels or really need the pitching stats.

Tim: In deeper leagues where all closers, co-closers, and effective primary set-up men are rostered, who are some relief candidates you could see getting a sizable portion of their team’s remaining save opportunities?

Longterm: I’m thinking of using a rosterspot for Brandon Marsh considering his hot start. Do you see this type of play as being sustainable for him going forward or is it more of temperory pick up?

Justin Mason: It definitely is not sustainable at this level. Getting really lucky on BABIP. He will regress, but he still should play a lot and there is pop and speed and I don’t think he fully falls off the table. Probably hits like .240-.250 rest of the way though.

Spach: 12 team, 5×5 standard head to head league. Would you deal Randy Arozarena for Soto straight up?

Justin Mason: That is tough. I don’t want to overreact on Soto, but I am super high on Arozarena. Randy is who I want.

Josiah Gray: Tell me why I shouldn’t believe the hype with him

Justin Mason: You should

Kichael Mopech: Agree starting Gore 2-start, but are you worried about him not really improving his BB% in this early surge?

Justin Mason: It is definitely concerning, but really hard not to roll with him while he is getting results. Walk rate needs to come down

Vaughn Grissom: I’m hitting well, but what’s going to happen to me when Arcia comes back?

Justin Mason: Hopefully he stays up. I think he should but I didn’t think he should have gone down initially either.

Aging SPs: Deep NL only 5×5. Matz or Thor ROY?

Justin Mason: Neither? I guess Matz

Why not Zoidberg?: Is Tyler O’Neil rosterable in an 8 team league? Traded Hoerner for him and think I’m probably holding on because of that mistake

Justin Mason: Hard to roster a guy that doesn’t play a ton in that size of a league.

Kid: Graham Ashcraft – Throws super hard, seems to limit hard contact… but also doesn’t miss bats and walks too many doods.  Can he take a step forward to be a reliable mixed-league asset?

Justin Mason: I think this is who he is. He is a streamer in shallower formats.

Mookie Dookie: Grayson threw 75innings last year. How many do you expect the Orioles let him get to this season?

Justin Mason: Depends on how they are doing. If they fall out of the race he probably gets shut down at like 130

Kichael Mopech: Cut Smith for Jones in baseball?

Tucupita Marcano: Is he worth a pickup in a deeper NL only league or would you prefer Senzel? Anyone with a pulse in Pitt is stealing bases

Struggling White Sox: I spent 20 FAAB claiming Eloy and put out another 20 for Robert (people in my league are dumb and panic dropping in 12 team 5×5). Am I burning too much FAAB on buy low guys?

Justin Mason: Not for guys like that.

David: What are your expectations for Gavin Stone?

Justin Mason: I think he will be pretty good with some hiccups mixed in. Walk rate might be a concern that leads to some blow ups.

Vic: Deciding what to do with Shohei is the bane of my existence. He was dominating the As until a very bottom of the 3rd likely threw him off for a moment. I still think it was the right decision at the time, but a high AVG, 3 bags, and pair of HRs is tough to miss out on….should I leave him at DH moving forward unless his 2nd start is scheduled for a Saturday?

Justin Mason: I think that is a good strategy most times out.

Kyle: Dropping either Tyler Anderson or Kyle Bradish for Braxton Garrett or Griffin Canning?

Justin Mason: I have Anderson and Bradish a little higher than both but I can understand making those kind of moves.

Booby: Which 3rd baseman is better ROS…..Chapman or Jung?

Justin Mason: Chapman

Tommy: Amed Rosario hit the wire. Would you prioritize him over “hot popups” like Suwinski, Harold Ramirez, etc?

Justin Mason: Absolutely

Mr Red: Cut bait on Casas and Tork in a dynasty league?

Justin Mason: I would try and trade them if I could. I moved Tork for Nathaniel Lowe at the beginning of the season.

Daniel: When are the Cards going to bring up Liberatore? He’s added velocity and is kicking ass.

Justin Mason: I think he may be up around Memorial Day. Maybe sooner if they cut bait on Matz

• I have a pitching logjam coming to a head, not sure how I should maneuver – 20 team 20 categories – bottom of my rotation is Quantrill, Wesneski, Wainright Bibee, I have Taillon and Waino coming off the IL in a few days. What do I do?

Justin Mason: Try and move Quantrill? I don’t think I would cut any of them for Waino

Insert Witty Name Here: In a league with an innings cap of 1250.  My pitchers right now are Strider, Javier, Darvish, Hunter Brown, Bibee, and Pfaadt (waiting!).  I need 1B help, would you say I’m solid enough to trade out Strider for an elite bat or try moving Brown or Javier for a lesser bat?

Justin Mason: I would try and move Brown or Javier first

Why not Zoidberg?: Haniger, Connor Joe, Noot, Miranda, and Kirk are available in a shallow H2H. You adding any of them? Might drop Sandoval, Abreu, Duran, TON

Justin Mason: I have no problem dropping Duran for Noot or Sandoval for Miranda or Kirk

Going for Broke: Took too many SP risks in my AL only (Jose Suarez. Clarke Schmidt, etc) and am in a deep ERA/Whip hole. Should I double down with streamers/bulk (Houck, Ober, Pivetta, Suarez himself) or pick up a bunch of RPs?

Justin Mason: I am in this same position in a couple of leagues. I am just trying to use smart starters and then fill in with RPs over risky starters. Ratios move a lot more than people think.

Bill: Is there any hope for varsho? He was dropped in my league and wondering if I should use the #1 claim to get him. It’d an ops roto league and I have stephenson

Justin Mason: I absolutely would grab him’

Dave: In a league with an innings limit, are you trying to stay roughly on pace throughout the year; start slow, let the dust settle, and catch up once you have more info about pitchers/lineups; or jump out ahead before league-mates catch on to this year’s trends?

Justin Mason: I tend to jump out early and then manage things as things go on. I’d rather be ahead early than behind.

Billy: Senga must own in a 10 tm?

Justin Mason: I don’t think he is

RH: Peyton Battlefield worth holding? 14 team dynasty

Justin Mason: Probably not

Matt: In a 12 team standard league do you think Oviedo is a team streamer or more a true stream?

Justin Mason: Team streamer

Kevin: Would you drop any of AJ Puk, Carlos Estevez, or Kyle Finnegan for Andres Munoz in a 5×5 roto league? Obviously Munoz is way better than those guys, but they’re all currently getting saves and Sewald seems to have established himself in Munoz’s absence.

Justin Mason: I would drop Finnegan

Philies Phirst Base: I’m in a 10 person league and just trying to figure out how to make sense of the Phillies first base situation and how to decode the fantasy possibilities between Harper perhaps playing, Clemons hitting alright, Bohm playing sometime there, and Derrik Hall being hurt but maybe coming back

Justin Mason: I think Harper will hold it down a bunch when he is ready for the field.

Marty McFly: Are we concerned about a Seiya Suzuki power outage coming off the oblique, or is 1 HR small sample/in line with expectations?

Justin Mason: Too small of a sample to worry about right now.

Dave: How do Mitch Keller, MacKenzie Gore, and Logan Allen rank the rest of the way?

Justin Mason: That is the order

Bryce Bryce Baby: Tough to predict, but what’s a dart throw target date for Bryce Harper to become 1B eligible?

Daniel: Logan Allen has looked good but I’m worried he won’t be long for the big leagues because of returning pitchers. Should I try to sell high on him now?

Justin Mason: Depends on what you could get. I think there is a real chance he is up for good.

Need Closer: I need a third closer and some doof dropped Pete Fairbanks. How much FAAB should I go? 12 team 5×5

Marty McFly: Worth holding a $0 Jordan Walker in a 12 team, 5 keepers at auction/acquisition value, only 5 bench spots so not super deep. I’m n a pack of 4 teams separated by 1 game at the top of the standings and have been OK so far, but losing the the ability to churn at the bottom of the roster without considering moving on…. Currently, I have Josh Jung at 3rd with a weak OF.  Think he’s worth the roster spot?

Justin Mason: I would try and hold but I understand needing to move on.

HappyFunBall: Who do I complain to about the Twins announcing that Mahle is shelved for 6 weeks on a Sunday but NOT officially IR-ing him in time for weekly waiver pickups?

Justin Mason: Super annoying.

TB Bulk Bin: Do you have a preference between the TB followers, Flemming and Chirinos? I’m trying to vulture wins…

Justin Mason: I guess Fleming.

RAGBRAI: How long is Doyle up and is he part of the Rockies MLB roster most of this year? Next year?

Justin Mason: I think he is up but maybe not playing every day unless there is an injury to open up more time. This week will give us a better idea now that Grichuk is back. I picked him up a league to stream the front part of the week.

Fleur de (Ado)Lis: Was really counting on Santander to take that next step this year, but he’s not lookin great thus far.  I try to be patient, but the statcast looks bleak as well.  What are you doin with him at this point?

Justin Mason: Depends on how low you can buy. He is on a team that is bad, so wins won’t be there and that defense behind him is not good which is bad for him as a groundball guy.
