Creamy: Given that this appears to be the “year of the disaster start,” are you modifying your approach to selecting 9 pitchers to start each week? For instance, are you less likely to start non-aces who are facing the best hitters’ line-ups for fear that they will hang 8 earned runs on your pitcher?

9:03	Justin Mason: I’m not changing much yet but that is mostly because I tend to be a more conservative player early on in the season. If you tend to be more aggressive than you may want to tone it down a little

9:03	Justin Mason: Way too early.

9:03	TribeGuy: Is this a new level for Yandy Diaz? 4 homers already and putting the ball in the air a ton (50% FB%, previous high 32%). Real or just early season variance?

9:04	Justin Mason: His launch angle is 15.6 degrees which is up over 10 degrees from his career, so we may be seeing the breakout. Still too early to tell for sure, but I would be rostering him just in case.

9:15	Justin Mason: Just a reminder, I try to get as many questions as I can, so don’t ask questions multiple times. It just slows everything down. It usually takes about 10-15 minutes before I get to a question because there are so many.

9:22	Justin Mason: I’d hold for now. Man, I wish they would trade him.

9:22	Moneyball: Is Miles Mikolas droppable in all formats at this point?

9:23	Justin Mason: In most formats that aren’t deep. I still think he will be ok, but you can grab him off the wire later if needed.

9:23	Colton: For AAA statcast data you go to the Gamefeed tab and switch the level to AAA and you’ll get everything

9:23	Max: Does calling up Brett Baty now essentially cost the Mets a year of his control, while not even having the opportunity to gain a draft pick should he finish top three in ROY voting? Could they have just waited another week or two?

9:23	Justin Mason: Can’t risk falling behind with some of our best talent in AAA. He could still finish top 3 in the ROY

9:23	Mark: Any idea why a team (in this case the Rays) wait to IL a guy when it’s clear they’re gonna need a stint (Springs?). Going on multiple days with a short roster (both my fantasy team and the Rays)!

9:24	Justin Mason: No idea. Super frustrating.

9:24	Nick: Do you think Mason Miller‘s next start comes with the A’s? And do you see him as a worthy stash? The back end of my pitching staff has been a series of swings and misses and am hoping to solidify things a little.

9:24	Pixley: Can Ji Hwan Bae stop striking out and hit .250? Seems like a nice swiss army knife type off the wire, but i worry about the PT if he cant get the avg up . I need to activate Nootbaar and cant decide whether i should drop Bae or Chris Sale .

9:25	Justin Mason: I think he will be fine. He has a good hit tool. I have a hard time dropping Sale for him, but understand it at this point.

9:25	Walla Walla Ron Washington: Dynasty league: traded Gaddis and Andy Pages for Eovaldi, based on his great peripherals so far. Results gonna improve to match, you think?

9:25	Justin Mason: I think that was a great buy low

9:25	chris: spent $10 in auction in AL Only for Berrios to see if there was a bounceback in store, hammered by royals and angels but shuts down the rays. How do you feel?

9:26	Justin Mason: The underlying numbers look better than last year, but I am still scared of Berrios.

9:26	KCbbq: Burger has hit well so far. Does he stay up when Moncada returns? Sure looks like he deserves it but where would he play?

9:26	Justin Mason: I picked him up in multiple leagues. Maybe this is where he cements a role.

9:26	Chris: How much attention should I pay to Mason Miller? More than Taj Bradley?

9:27	Justin Mason: I think he is interesting, but he hasn’t built up a lot of innings and it is still the A’s so wins will be hard to come by. Bradley is way more interesting.

9:27	Vince: 10-tm H2H cat league suffering from Ray, and now Springs injuries . Any value in Braxton Garrett, Domingo German, ERod, Falter, Strahm or Soroka (not far from return)? Senga, Morton and Jameson are my backend SPs.

9:28	Justin Mason: I prefer both Garrett and Eduardo Rodriguez to Jameson.

9:28	KCbbq: Small sample aside what do you make of Rooker’s fast start? I thought I read he was a first round pick by the Twins. Wondering if he has staying power, then again he’s playing on a lousy team.

9:29	Justin Mason: He has mostly been a short side platoon guy and while he is hitting righties right now, he has a pretty high BABIP against them right now. HE will cool down, but he could play a lot since they don’t have a lot else.

9:30	Tanner Bibee: Am I the real deal? unhittable in AAA. Do you anticipate a callup, not currently on 40 man however.

9:31	Justin Mason: I think he could be really good, but I just don’t know that the Guardians want to start his clock yet.

9:31	KCbbq: Thoughts on what to expect when Montas returns. Shoulder issue too sketchy to warrant picking up via FAAB?

9:31	Justin Mason: I would stay away unless I had unlimited IL.

9:31	HappyFunBall: 2xCatcher league, Smith out for a week at least. Grab Bethancourt, Gomes, or Nola? Or sit with a zero until he’s back? I’m leaning towards the zero…

9:31	Bill: Do you think L Garcia (HOU) will turn it around? He was dropped in 15 team mixed.

9:32	Justin Mason: I think he has to be better than this. The underlying numbers are not good though… He should be rostered in a 15 teamer

9:35	chris: looking to upgrade my starting pitching in NL Only. Looking to buy-low, all these guys have ERAs of more than 4: scherzer, sandy, corbin, nola, webb, wheeler. Which of these to target for buy-low?

9:36	Justin Mason: All of them? lol. Burnes looked like himself in his most recent start, so if I could get him now I would be stoked. Webb has been getting more K’s which makes him super interesting too, but the defense is really bad behind him.

9:38	Andrew Vaughn: Vaughn’s launch angle has decreased from last year and 2021. Anything to read into that or is it too early still?

9:38	Justin Mason: Still early, but I am not a Vaughn guy so I would be a little worried. Had a back issue in spring that worries me.

9:38	Nate: Think there’s still hope for Torkelson being a thing? I’m trying to suffer through stashing him and Casas in a deep keeper hoping one of them finally breaks out

9:39	Justin Mason: At this point I think Torkelson is mostly name value. I traded him in a dynasty league this spring for Nathaniel Lowe

9:40	Justin Mason: This normalizes pretty quickly and the underlying numbers are pretty good. I think he definitely could be top 7

9:41	Bill: Are any of your sources low on Bobby Witt Jr.? Nearly 700 career MLB plate appearances now with league average production and weak plate discipline… average SS defense…

9:42	Justin Mason: From a fantasy angle, you can’t really be unhappy with what he does. He is also making more contact in the zone and the swinging strike rate is down. Maybe the real life value is less, but he is a fantasy stud

9:42	Doot: Should I dump sale, morton, or heaney for taj in a 10 team roto league with k/9?

9:42	Justin Mason: I can drop Sale in a 10 for him.

9:42	Mark: I’m playing in a shallow H2H expanded categories league (about 220 rostered and 17 categories) with 5 bench spots. Trying to figure out the right strategy and how to decided daily lineup decisions for my offensive spots. Any general suggestions?

9:43	Justin Mason: 17 categories! That is crazy. I would run it through the auction calculator and see what it spits out.

9:43	Kelly: Is Domingo German worth rostering?

9:43	Justin Mason: In deeper leagues, yes

9:43	JV: Any concerns about Jose Abreu? I was hoping for a little bit more power (think 22-25 homers) with plus OBP. Slow start or concern?

9:44	Justin Mason: I have some concerns. Less contact and more swing and miss. I think I am benching for now and waiting to see things turn around.

9:44	Guest: Would you drop Winker for Soler considering the news of Winker’s oblique soreness?

9:45	Ethan: What do you think of an Edward Cabrera two-start next week @ ATL and vCHC. He is available in my League (12-Team 5X5) and seems to be the best option available.

9:45	Justin Mason: A bit risky especially the ATL start, but I could understand risking it.

9:45	Sticky Rosin Bag: NL-only 5×5 keeper league, rebuilding this year. Over next 3 years what’s order of pitchers you like best: Grove, Ashcroft, Painter, Elder, Dodd, & Kyle Harrison?

9:46	Miguel Vargas: Am I worth buying low on in an OBP-points league? Worth giving up Rowdy Tellez for?

9:46	Justin Mason: That’s close because Tellez has turned it around, but I think I would in OBP

9:46	Dalai Lama: Is JD Davis for real if he gets consistent playing time?

9:46	Justin Mason: Probably not, but I would roster for now to see if he can make it work.

9:47	Kingpin: I grabbed Boxberger in 5×5 NL-only. Fulmer’s owner panic dropped Fulmer. Would you drop Ryne Nelson or Elder to grab Fulmer? Just drop Box for Fulmer?

9:47	GBS42: Would you bench Freddy Peralta at home vs. Boston this week? He got thumped by a strong San Diego offense in his last start.

9:47	Justin Mason: I think that is close. Probably not but I can understand doing it.

9:47	Pixley: Seems like the A’s could use the Strider plan for Miller. Call him up and use him out of the bullpen (he could probably be their closer) and then give him a handful of starts towards the end of the year and make him a fulltime starter going into 2024.

9:49	cinnabon: Hey, curious if you have any insight into how the prospect team missed so significantly on Volpe’s speed? He received a 45/40 and currently has 87th percentile sprint speed. I don’t mean to be critical, just curious how this could happen

Given that this appears to be the “year of the disaster start,” are you modifying your approach to selecting 9 pitchers to start each week? For instance, are you less likely to start non-aces who are facing the best hitters’ line-ups for fear that they will hang 8 earned runs on your pitcher?
