As we head into primetime drafting season, I will be rereleasing my positional ranks. Here are my current ranks for the first base position for 2022, my third of the offseason. 4 Marcus Semien TEX 2B, SS 44.52 Hate may be going too far.
5 Javier Báez DET 2B, SS 62.48 Power and speed will play in Detroit.
6 Brandon Lowe TB 2B 78.28 Somehow going later than last year after a huge season.
7 Jose Altuve HOU 2B 80.3 Super safe for average and power.
8 Jorge Polanco MIN 2B, SS 77.82 I believe in the breakout.
9 Jonathan India CIN 2B 84.8 Not a huge ceiling, but a very safe floor.
10 Tommy Edman STL 2B, OF 81.84 Some concerns he could get dropped in the lineup.
11 Jazz Chisholm Jr. MIA 2B, SS 72.38 Huge upside if he can stay healthy.
12 Ketel Marte ARZ 2B, OF 86.18 Health is the concern. Talent is is not.
13 Jake Cronenworth SD 1B, 2B, SS 126.1 Love the triple eligiblity on a great team
14 DJ LeMahieu NYY 1B, 2B, 3B 120.34 I think he bounces back in average and scores a ton of runs.
15 Chris Taylor LAD 2B, SS, OF 134.72 Second half average drop is a bit concerning.
16 Luis Urías MLW 2B, 3B, SS 147.66 I don’t think there is a ton of room for growth except in average.
17 Jean Segura PHI 2B 180.14 Doesn’t get enough respect for all around production.
18 Jonathan Schoop DET 1B, 2B 200.6 I can’t remember such a streaky player that is so reliable.
19 Ryan McMahon COL 2B, 3B 161.1 I think he is who he is at this point.
20 Ty France SEA 1B, 2B 155.58 I don’t see the power upside that others do for France.
21 Kolten Wong MLW 2B 170.74 Health is the main concern for Wong.
22 Brendan Rodgers COL 2B, SS 172.2 If healthy, he could be really good, but I need to see him stay on the field.
23 Eduardo Escobar NYM 2B, 3B 201.76 Hate the park and the fact he will likely hit near the bottom of the order.
24 Andrés Giménez CLE 2B, SS 240.4 Finally began to produce at the end of the season. Probably underrated.
25 Gavin Lux LAD 2B, SS 229.36 Talent is immense and this could be the year.
26 Josh Rojas ARZ 2B, SS, OF 224.22 I want to believe, but the StatCast profile is gross.
27 Enrique Hernández BOS 2B, OF 219.04 Boring but reliable.
28 Abraham Toro SEA 2B, 3B 254.26 Big oppurtunity with Seager gone.
29 Garrett Hampson COL 2B, OF 258.3 Speed is great, but never delivered on the hype
30 Cesar Hernandez WAS 2B 320.46 Hitting in front Soto will be nice.
31 Nick Madrigal CHC 2B 291.82 Looks healthy and could be a monster in batting average
32 David Fletcher LAA 2B, SS 335.54 Will play everyday.
33 Luis Arraez MIN 2B, 3B, OF 297.62 Empty average with eligiblity.
34 Leury García CHW 2B, OF 458.36 Should play everyday .
35 Adam Frazier SEA 2B 332.26 Disappeared after trade to Seattle.
36 Ha-Seong Kim SD 2B, 3B, SS 344.58 I still believe in the talent. Needs a role.
37 Jeff McNeil NYM 2B, OF 323.24 Might be the odd man out in NY.
38 Max Muncy LAD 1B, 2B 172.76 Can’t trust him with a UCL tear.
39 Nico Hoerner CHC 2B 386.38 Could turn into a cheap accumulator.
40 Nick Solak TEX 2B 372.42 Burn me once, shame on you. Burn me twice, shame on me.
41 Robinson Canó NYM 2B 473.2 If he is on the team, he could be a steal at the price. Don;t know that he will be.
42 Rougned Odor BAL 2B, 3B 425.16 Should play regularly and if you can sustain the bad average, there’s pop here.
43 Luis García WAS 2B 455.7 Surprised the Nats blocked him with Hernandez.
44 Dylan Moore SEA 2B, OF 427.26 Needs to learn to hit righties if he wants to play.
45 Nolan Gorman STL 2B 468.36 Love the talent, but he needs a role.
46 Edmundo Sosa STL 2B, SS 407.3 Looks like he could have a job on Opening Day.
47 Tommy La Stella SF 2B 472.96 If healthy, he could lead off versus righties.
48 Tony Kemp OAK 2B, OF 384.72 Has a role, but the ceiling is low.
49 Willi Castro DET 2B, SS 518.44 Last year’s bust is still pretty young.
50 Josh Harrison FA 2B, 3B, OF 384.32 Landing spot determines his value.
51 Wilmer Flores SF 1B, 2B, 3B 748.92 Unfortunatly he will platoon.

think there’s a formatting issue with the intro text being stuck in the table.

curious what your thoughts are on Willi Castro, it’s just hard to get a feel on any Detroit hitter.
