FAAB & Waiver Wire Report (Week 13)

In the article, I cover the players using CBS’s (about 40% or less initial roster rate) and Yahoo’s ADD/DROP rates. Both hosting sites have the option for daily and weekly waiver wire adds. CBS uses a weekly change while Yahoo looks at the last 24 hours. Yahoo is a great snapshot of right now while CBS ensures hot targets from early in the week aren’t missed. The players are ordered for redraft leagues by my rest-of-season preference grouped by starters, relievers, and hitters.

Batters

Zach Neto: Hitting a solid .251/.300/.434 with 10 HR and 9 SB.

David Hamilton: Strong-side platoon bat who is tied for fifth in the league with 20 SB.

Tommy Pham: Solid .282/.353/.410 with 4 HR and 4 SB. His stock should head up once he is traded to a contending team.

Andrew Vaughn: On fire in June by hitting .352/.370/.592 with 5 HR. The key has been cutting his strikeout rate from 28% in April to 18% in June.

Carlos Santana: Starting most days while posting a 1.076 OPS in June.

Mauricio Dubón: Twelve straight starts with a .301 AVG, 3 HR, and 2 SB.

Jarred Kelenic: He is leading off against lefties and righties while hitting .268/.310/.426 with 6 HR and 2 SB on the season.

Paul DeJong: Hitting for power (14 HR) and not his normal batting average drain (.237 AVG).

Tyler Soderstrom: He finally started against a lefty so his platoon may be over. He is hitting .247/.354/.454 with 5 HR and 0 SB in 97 PA.

Jose Siri: Started in nine of the last 10 games. While providing 9 HR and 10 SB, he also has a .214 AVG.

Will Brennan: Strong-side platoon bat with six righties on the schedule next week.

Mickey Moniak: Strong-side platoon bat scheduled to face six righties next week.

Miguel Rojas: Since Betts went on the IL, Rojas has started in four of five games. He is hitting for average but not much more (.270/.313/.421).

Jake McCarthy: Starts for two to three games and then sits. On the season, he is hitting .293/.376/.415 with 3 HR and 12 SB.

Jose Miranda: While productive (.795 OPS), he has only started in six of the last ten games.

Joc Pederson: Strong-side platoon bat who only faces four lefties next week.

Spencer Horwitz: Only faces righties and five are on the schedule next week. Hitting .343/.439/.400 with a .400 BABIP.

Daniel Schneemann: Seven starts in the last 10 games. A .409 BABIP has him hitting .303/.439/.515 with 1 SB and 1 HR.

Nolan Schanuel: Transformed from a good batting average source to a middling power first baseman who is a batting average drain. Barely a bench streamer.

Lenyn Sosa: Starting but with only a .595 OPS. Injury replacement.

Joey Meneses: Nine straight starts but just a .625 OPS for a first baseman. Hopefully, better options are on the wire.

Enmanuel Valdez: Strong-side platoon bat who is only hitting .217 AVG with 6 HR.

Hunter Goodman: Six starts in the last seven games with five games at catcher. Even with half his games at Coors Field, he only has a .683 OPS.

Michael Toglia: Rostered for the seven-game homestand. Next week, he’s on the road and only for five games. Drop.

Brett Wisely: Strong side of a shortstop platoon. Next week, the Giants only face four righties. Ignore.

Garrett Mitchell: On a AAA rehab assignment while hitting .269/.345/.654 with 3 HR and 2 SB in 29 PA.

Charlie Blackmon: Strong-side platoon bat on the IL .

Orelvis Martinez: Just promoted to the majors but his playing time is up in the air. In AAA he was hitting .260/.343/.523 with 16 HR and 0 SB. 80-game suspension for PEDs, effectively done for 2024.

Catchers

Jose Trevino: Hitting a solid .252 AVG with 8 HR.

Patrick Bailey: Cut his K% by 10% points and has a nice .299 AVG with 5 HR.

Tyler Soderstrom: He finally started against a lefty so his platoon may be over. On the season, he is hitting .247/.354/.454 with 5 HR and 0 SB in 97 PA.

Ben Rice: Struggling in his first four games (.468 OPS).

Freddy Fermin: At least he’s not a batting average drain (.294/.342/.434).

Mitch Garver: Huge batting average drain (.175 AVG) but has hit 8 HR.

Hunter Goodman: Six starts in the last seven games with five games at catcher. Even with half his games at Coors Field, he just has a .683 OPS.

Jacob Stallings: The seven games in Coors had him on radars but he will head to the waiver wire with just five road games next week.

Starting Pitchers

Spencer Schwellenbach: With a short major-league stint, all signs are pointing up. Projections point to an ERA around 4.00 to 4.25. The STUPH metrics love him with an overall 105 Pitching+ and a 3.53 botERA. Also, he has a nice two-step next week with games at St. Louis and versus Pittsburgh. This is perfect and last week to add him before his stock takes off.

DJ Herz: After Herz’s 13 K performance last weekend, all eyes were on his Colorado start. While not many managers started Herz, I am sure they were elated to see a zero in the walks column. In four starts, he has a 2.5 BB/9 after only having one walk rate under 4.00 while going through the minors. With his xFIP and SIERA near 3.00, he’s a must-add to see if the results continue.

Jonathan Cannon: Cannon has been decent so far (3.34 ERA, 3.47 xFIP, 1.24 WHIP, and 7.8 K/9) and has a start against the Tigers on Sunday. For those with Sunday FAAB, how this start goes will go a long way to setting his cost.

Miles Mikolas: A 1.3 HR/9 has come back to bite him with 4.59 ERA (4.12 WHIP). Just above a 4.00 ERA talent.

Alec Marsh: Solid 4.00 ERA talent to be streamed against weaker opponents.

Carson Spiers: With Spiers starting this past Monday, he lined up for two starts but it seems like he’ll start Monday. While he was great as a reliever (2.00 ERA), he’s been unlucky as a starter (50% LOB%, .350 BABIP). So far, his fastball has elite results (13% SwStr) with his slider being average (14% SwStr%). He throws a sinker and curve with both having a sub-6% SwStr% (sinker at 1%). He has been throwing his cutter (11 SwStr%) more. With maybe two-starts next week, he might be worth a roster-and-monitor.

Landon Knack: If Knack was not on the Dodgers and on the Pirates, there would be no excitement for him. Instead, he’s moving up. In 25 IP he has a 2.10 ERA and 0.94 WHIP from an unsustainable .183 BABIP. His ERA estimators hover around 4.50. I’m not sure how he’s going to be good. A 93-mph fastball is below average. His slider (13% SwStr%) and change (11% SwStr%) get a below-average amount of swing-and-miss for secondaries. The hope is for some Dodger magik … which this season means he’ll be on the IL in a start or two.

Cade Povich: Matching 5.1 K/9 and 5.1 BB/9 is not how a pitcher wants to start. While some of his ERA estimators are over 6.00, he’s been able to keep an ERA under 4.00 by not getting hit around (0.6 HR/9, .204 BABIP). I know he has prospect pedigree but he can’t be started with all the walks.

Tobias Myers: I don’t understand the demand for Myers. It’s not that he’s being rostered, it’s that he’s 56% rostered. A .240 BABIP and 86% LOB% suppress his 3.26 ERA (4.12 xFIP) and 1.13 WHIP. Streaming option.

Albert Suárez 수아레즈: He’s struggling right now with his K%-BB% dropping each month from 19% to 10% to 3%. Also, his velocity slowly heading downward.

I think Suárez can be a good pitcher but all indications point to his talent heading downward.

Cal Quantrill: At least he’s on the road to face the White Sox next week. On a neutral field, he projects to be a ~4.50 ERA talent and should be streamable in this matchup.

David Peterson: No consensus exists on his talent. Steamer values him with a 3.35 ERA with ZiPS at 4.64 ERA. He has a 3.97 ERA with a 5.60 xERA. He has a 95 Pitching+ (near average) but a 5.00 botERA (not near average). For now, I’m going to focus on his 4.1 K%-BB%. Of the 183 starters with at least 20 IP, it’s the ninth smallest value. I’ll ignore him until he has a rolling K%-BB% is over 10%.

Hogan Harris: Harris has needed a little luck to get a 2.37 ERA with a .225 BABIP and 82% LOB%. He’s struggled with walks in the minors (7.4 BB/9 in AAA) but has just a 3.3 BB/9 in the majors. His 37% Ball% points to a 3.2 BB/9. If the walks stay down, I see him as a ~4.25 ERA talent. Streamable 25% of the time … maybe.

Colin Rea: A 3.62 ERA looks shiny but everything under the hood is rusty and broken. I would expect regression to his 4.49 career ERA, especially with a career-low 5.9 K/9.

Michael Lorenzen: A .222 BABIP is leading to a 1.15 WHIP and 3.00 ERA while his ERA estimators are closer to 5.00. I expect his BABIP to regress to his career .279 mark and he’ll be unrosterable.

Logan Allen: I wondered why an over 5.00 ERA talent was being rostered. A two-start week (at BAL, vs KC).

Kyle Hendricks: His 88-mph fastball continues to get hit around with a 2.0 HR/9 and .331 BABIP. He’s no longer a major league quality pitcher. Since 2021, he has a 4.77 ERA in over 400 IP. Cooked.

Starting Pitcher Stashes

Robbie Ray: Made 4 GS in Complex ball and thrown 7 IP.

Jeffrey Springs: Made 5 GS across two levels for a total of 6 IP.

Jake Bloss: Bloss was going to be near the top of the regular rankings, but he’s on the IL (shoulder).

Brandon Sproat: In AA, the 23-year-old has a 2.27 ERA, 0.84 WHIP, and 10.1 K/9 in 35 IP.

Relievers – Saves-based ranks

Chad Green: Good reliever who is now the closer.

Ryne Stanek: Average reliever who is sharing the closer duties.

Alex Vesia: Good reliever who gets some Saves if the hitters in the ninth are lefties.

Keegan Thompson, Drew Smyly, Tyson Miller, Mark Leiter Jr., and Colten Brewer: OK relievers who one might be the closer now or if Héctor Neris continues to struggle.

Nate Pearson: Good reliever who is the backup closer.

Colin Holderman: Great reliever who is the backup closer.

Bryan Hudson: Good reliever who is the backup closer.

Look forward to these articles every week, thanks for doing them. Just one thing – Cleveland is only expected to face four righties next week as Baltimore has lefties going Monday and Tuesday and then they see Ragans later in the week.
