Daily Fantasy Strategy — May 1 — For Draftstreet

I’ll be filling in for Blake this week, so you’ll have a little more of my sometimes good, mostly mediocre advice instead of his informative breakdowns of scoring.

The past few days have been a mess. Rain has wreaked havoc on a number of schedules, and on my charts I use for probable pitchers. Fortunately, forecasts look better today. Unfortunately, the solid forecasts are accompanied by a rather lax schedule. Thursdays are the worst, sometimes. They’re good for your work week, but they usually leave a little to be desired as far as baseball in concerned.

For most leagues today only the late games count. So don’t stack Red Sox hitters assuming they’ll be facing Cesar Ramos. According to Don Mattlingly, Red Patterson will “probably” pitch the second games of the Twins/Dodgers doubleheader. The Mariners might be a nice stack against David Phelps, given that their lineup is extremely lefty heavy. Unfortunately, whether or not they’ll actually hit is a huge question.

Ben Zobrist – $6,445
Evan Longoria – $ 6,203
Wil Myers – $4,861

Stacking the back end of a doubleheader can be risky, because we’re never sure who is actually going to suit up. As long as all three of these guys suit up, they’re my favorite stack tonight. If one of them sits, feel free to use Desmond Jennings ($5,926) instead.

Edwin Encarnacion – $ 7,912

E5 seems to finally be coming around after his slow start, slashing .265/.359/.559 since April 20 (arbitrary endpoints alert!). He draws a homer prone Guthrie today, so perhaps he can leave the yard for a third time today.

Chris Archer – $12,661

Starting anyone in Fenway can be scary, but Archer has the ability to stifle the Red Sox lineup and their park simultaneously. And best of all, he doesn’t really have to do either in dominant fashion to be worth his price.
