Daily Fantasy Strategy — April 19 — For Draftstreet

Can we take a moment to talk about Chase Utley? I briefly mentioned Scott Kazmir’s come back the other day. Utley’s isn’t very similar because he hasn’t actually gone anywhere the past few years, even if it felt as if he had at times. Utley’s stayed productive despite his body’s seemingly ill wishes. From 2005 – 2009, it’s hard to put into words how good he was. He was second in WAR over that time period with a 37.4 mark, second only to King Albert’s staggering 41.

Obviously his prime was fantastic, even if, as a Braves fan, it was tough to watch. But damn, if it wasn’t fun, too. Over the past few years, injuries have been a bother, but he’s still remained remarkably productive at the plate. Since 2010, his wRC+ marks are as follows: 128, 111, 113, 126, and 252 (’14; small sample, etc.). Utley’s revert back to otherworldly excellence so far has been marvelous to watch, and to read about it, which you can do here. Hopefully he continues his tear for a little while longer, because it’s been fun.

Probables Chart

Like yesterday, the best stacking opportunity likely lies in Colorado. Kyle Kendrick is squaring off with Jordan Lyles. The latter has been especially dreadful during his short career versus left handed batters. Michael Bolsinger draws the Dodgers in his first major league start, so the Dodgers could have a blast.

The Daily Five

Jordan Zimmermann – $14,550

I understand that the Cardinals have a nice offense, but this price is odd. I’m not sure I have even seen a pitcher of Zimmermann’s quality be priced so cheaply. I’m not worried enough about St. Louis’ offense to pass on this price.

Red Sox stack

David Ortiz – $7,435
Daniel Nava – $5,761
Mike Napoli – $6,213

Hopefully these three will accompany three of the top five spots in the batting order today when the Sox take on Bud Norris. Napoli’s slight injury makes him a tiny question mark, so monitor his status appropriately. He played last night, though, and there have been no reports to suggest he’ll the day off so all hands should be on deck.

Chris Colabello – $5,352

Echoing my Harang pick from yesterday, why not? Colabello has been raking, so let’s just hope he can keep it going a little longer.
