Notable Workloads
•Clay Holmes, NYY: Three of the last four days; 26 pitches on Friday. | RosterResource
Jonathan Loáisiga has also pitched three-of-four. That could leave Wandy Peralta, Lou Trivino and the just-activated Aroldis Chapman as the likeliest closers on Saturday.
•José Leclerc, TEX: 25 pitches on Friday. | RosterResource
Matt Moore and Jonathan Hernández should both be available on Saturday.
•Ian Kennedy, ARI: 27 pitches on Friday. | RosterResource
Kennedy could need two days off after being hammered to the tune of four runs in two-thirds of an inning on Friday. Joe Mantiply is the likeliest closer Saturday if needed.
•Seranthony Domínguez, PHI: 28 pitches on Friday. | RosterResource
Co-closer David Robertson will be in the driver’s seat on Saturday after Domínguez’s eighth-inning blowup on Friday.

Outlier Saves
•Manuel Rodríguez, CHC | RosterResource
The Cubs have largely turned to Brandon Hughes and Rowan Wick since trading David Robertson to the Phillies on August 2nd, but Wick threw 26 pitches on Wednesday—evidently getting multiple days off—and Hughes got the 8th on Friday. As such, the ninth went to Rodríguez, who threw a perfect inning on just 11 pitches.
Friday’s was Rodríguez’s second save of the season in just eight appearances (he spent much of the year on the IL), and he’s pitched well, so he’s a dark horse for saves not just this year but next if the Cubs don’t go out and sign a veteran closer in the offseason.
Committee Clarity
•Dylan Floro and Tanner Scott, MIA | RosterResource
Floro didn’t pitch on Friday, but Scott pitching the seventh (and struggling) is the latest data point to show that there really is no committee: Floro’s the closer. Scott’s pitched in the seventh or eighth in each of his last seven appearances, and he hasn’t earned a save since August 23rd. In that time, Floro has a couple of saves and has allowed three runs in ten innings.
Losing A Grip
•None
