Outlier Saves
•Blake Treinen, LAD | RosterResource
With Kenley Jansen unavailable after pitching back-to-back days, Treinen made quick work of the Giants with an eight-pitch ninth inning to close out a 2-1 victory. The 32-year-old now has two saves to go along with 11 holds.
•Jacob Barnes, NYM | RosterResource
Ahead 6-3 in the bottom of the 12th inning, the Mets went with lefty Aaron Loup, the sixth reliever of the game, to face the top of the Marlins’ lineup. After back-to-back singles by Jazz Chisholm Jr. and Miguel Rojas, Loup got Corey Dickerson to ground into a double play.
Up 6-5 with right-handed batter Adam Duvall coming up, manager Luis Rojas would go to his seventh reliever, Barnes, whose last save came in 2018 when he was pitching for the Brewers. Duvall flew out to end the game and Barnes picked up his first save of 2021.
Committee Clarity
•Michael Fulmer, DET | RosterResource
Not only does Fulmer keep racking up the saves — he closed out a 7-5 win on Friday to pick up his fourth save in his last eight appearances — he’s also throwing gas. His fastballs ranged from 96.8-99.9 MPH as he sat down the Royals in order. The 28-year-old right-hander has not allowed an earned run over his last 10 innings pitched.
With his value soaring, Fulmer could quickly become a top trade candidate for a playoff contender looking to strengthen their bullpen. Holding on to him until mid-to-late July, however, might be necessary in order to better manage co-closer Gregory Soto’s workload and to keep things from going completely off the rails in Detroit.
Losing A Grip

You don’t think Hand is losing a grip? (Pun intended)
Had him in there after his blown save on 5/12, But 2 converted saves since and he finished yesterday’s game. Probably still on shaky ground, but not much threat when the only candidate to take the spot (Daniel Hudson) is probably a better fit as a co-closer or in a committee. And despite giving up runs in his last two, Hand technically did his “job” by closing things out with his team ahead. So I don’t think things changed much after yesterday.
