Roto Riteup — Presented By DraftKings: June 27, 2014

Way back in middle school I vividly remember Nelly’s “Country Grammar” being released. On this date 14 years ago the album was debuted and I was all about it. The track “Ride Wit Me” (warning: language) is something I have mostly memorized to this day.

On today’s agenda:
1. Welcome back, Wilson Ramos
2. A strong outing from Ryan Vogelsong
3. Mike Leake’s even better start
4. Bad news for Tony Cingrani
5. The daily five

Exactly 27 years ago today the genius known as Mel Brooks unleashed the film “Spaceballs.” To boil a masterpiece such as that down to a single scene is impossible, but the trailer does a solid job. Okay, and the ludicrous speed scene. And the “When will then be now?” clip. You know, just go watch the entire film; it’s on Netflix.

On today’s agenda:
1. Thoughts on Everth Cabrera
2. Brett Lawrie to miss 3-6 weeks
3. The return of Travis d’Arnaud
4. The daily five

Thirty years ago today the film “The Karate Kid” was released. I’ll admit I haven’t seen the remake, but I have a hard time believing it could possibly have a better montage than the original. I mean, it was the best around.

On today’s agenda:
1. A strong outing from Mike Leake
2. J.J. Hardy hits a home run
3. Joc Pederson watch
4. The daily five

Today’s Roto Riteup is unofficially brought to you by Modest Mouse and their album “Good News For People Who Love Bad News.” I’m currently listening to this record for the first time in a few years and it still holds up. When I sat down “Bukowski” (warning: language) began to play and I urge you to listen to it.

On today’s agenda:
1. Carlos Martinez to start tomorrow
2. Corey Dickerson fills up the stat sheet
3. A demotion for Tony Cingrani
4. Kris Bryant watch
5. The daily five

Yesterday, June 19, was the 13th anniversary of Mandy Moore’s self titled album. While this album was released my freshman year of high school, Mandy Moore was one of my earliest celebrity crushes, going back to her debut. I am not embarrassed (you should all know by now I have no shame) to say her track Crush resonated with 14-year-old and (very) awkward me.

On today’s agenda:
1. Zack Wheeler’s dominant start
2. A setback for Jedd Gyorko
3. Thoughts on Danny Duffy
4. Mookie Betts watch
5. The daily five

Today is the the 26th anniversary of “Bull Durham” being released. The “I believe” speech is a pretty great rant (warning: language), even though I personally like the designated hitter.

On today’s agenda:
1. Jake Peavy’s strong start
2. The return of A.J. Ellis
3. Some (very) early thoughts on Eugenio Suarez
4. The daily five

Hooray, we survived a full moon on Friday the 13! I consider myself lucky, particularly considering we also made it through Y2K and the Mayan 2012 end-of-the-world scenario.

On today’s agenda:
1. Thoughts on Juan Francisco
2. Oscar Taveras down to Triple-A
3. Return of Mat Latos
4. The daily five

Quite possibly my favorite sporting event — yes, perhaps even above baseball — kicked off yesterday. Though the refereeing was less-than-stellar, I enjoyed the opening game of the World Cup. I’ll be rooting for South Korea as well as the USMNT. Here’s to hoping both can make it out of their groups. They’ll need some luck to do so.

On today’s agenda:
1. Brock Holt keeps mashing
2. The return of Jesus Montero
3. Nick Swisher is activated
4. The daily five

Today marks the seventh anniversary of the final episode of “The Sopranos.” The last episode wasn’t at all what I expected — particularly the final scene — though I still find myself going back and watching select episodes of the show.

On today’s agenda:
1. Lonnie Chisenhall’s big day
2. Strong game from Scott Van Slyke
3. Michael Cuddyer to the disabled list
4. Grégory Polanco gets the call
5. The daily five

Sticking with the 1980’s film theme from yesterday, today is the 31st anniversary of the film “Trading Places.” This scene depicts the scheme and events to get even with some shady bosses.

On today’s agenda:
1. Kendrys Morales finds a home
2. Thoughts on Khris Davis
3. Russell Martin: on-base machine
4. The daily five
