Early Ottoneu Hitter Projections

You might have missed it, but the initial Steamer 2017 projections were released here at FanGraphs a few weeks ago, and the first few sets of 2017 ZiPS projections have been posted as well. This time of year feels a bit like an early Christmas for a projection nerd like myself. I wanted to take a peek and highlight some hitters with interesting projections, and will be doing so using the context of the dollar values I use on the ottoneu surplus calculator (note- those values are based only on Steamer at the moment).

Ottoneu Surplus Calculator: Early 2017

My first post here at RotoGraphs last year was an introduction to the Ottoneu Surplus Calculator, a tool I created to help ottoneu owners calculate and visualize the best assets in their leagues. If you want to know more about the background of the tool, or more specifics on how to use it, be sure to read that prior article. Today I wanted to announce the release of the early 2017 version of the calculator, using the just released Steamer 2017 projections.

Reviewing Justin Vibber’s 2016 Bold Predictions

This was my first year publishing my bold predictions, and I have to admit that it was difficult to balance making truly bold predictions while still offering useful insight for fantasy owners. Let’s take a look and see how my predictions look now:

Ottoneu Waiver Wire: September 2016

Ottoneu owners have less than 12 hours (or possibly 36) to add players via 48 hour auctions before the regular season ends, so the title of this post more accurately should have been “Ottoneu Waiver Wire: The Final Countdown”. Obviously any pickups made at this point won’t contribute in 2016 but are purely speculative with an eye towards next year, so let’s take a look at some players owned in less than 50% of ottoneu that might offer some keeper potential:

Examining Some Close Ottoneu Races

Five days. That’s all that separates a small subset of ottoneu owners and a championship. As these final days play out, I thought it would be interesting to take a look at the closest races across ottoneu FanGraphs points leagues as of this morning using the same standings pull that I run when creating the power rankings.

Ottoneu Power Rankings: August 2016

We are nearing the homestretch in the baseball and ottoneu season, and this will be the last in-season power rankings. The next time power rankings are released, they will be final 2016 results, and I plan on releasing the full team/league standings files for each format at that time as well.

Ottoneu Waiver Wire: August 2016

We are officially in the dog days of ottoneu summer, with contending teams scrambling to plug leaks to keep their championship hopes alive and rebuilding teams sifting through the free agent wreckage to find something of value for next season and beyond. Let’s take a look at the players that have been most added across all ottoneu leagues over the past week and month.

Learning To Love Rotisserie Leagues Again

I first started playing fantasy baseball more than 20 years ago, and I have fond memories of calculating the scoring for the league I ran in middle school by hand using old Baseball Weekly’s (now known as Sports Weekly). Back then rotisserie leagues were synonymous with fantasy baseball, there weren’t really any other formats, the only distinction was using a 5×5 setup that incorporated runs and strikeouts versus the original 4×4 format. Rotisserie baseball was directly responsible for the current fantasy sports boom, but as I got older and other options became popular I found reasons to move away from the format.

Ottoneu Power Rankings: July 2016

We are now two thirds of the way through the season, and only a month out from the ottoneu trade deadline, so league races have narrowed down quite a bit and every move from here on out becomes critically important. Here is the link to last month’s rankings, which also includes links to the other rankings this season if you want to look at how things have changed.

Without further ado, the FanGraphs points league team rankings (1,340 teams):
