Bullpen Report: Sunday April 26, 2015

What an uneventful day for bullpens. Like zero things changed. Tony Cingrani pitched two frames for the Reds, his first action in forever. I can see him pitching the seventh for the Reds in the near future. Hector Rondon garnered his fourth save for the Cubs, following Pedro Strop and his sore foot.

David Robertson struck out the side and picked up the win in the White Sox suspended victory over the Royals. He gave up two hits, but grabbed his third save in the second game with K.C. Huge day for Robertson. I bet he called his parents tonight and was all, “I got a win and a save today!”. They should be hella proud.

Tyler Clippard was on waivers in one of my leagues. I wish I had him, but I’m not sad I didn’t get saddled with his two earned and the loss Sunday. Tony Sipp slurped up his second win, and Luke Gregerson saved his fourth game for the Astros.

Craig Kimbrel has six saves for the Padres. Jason Grilli has seven. I would imagine that Kimbrel makes that gap a little bigger as the summer progresses. Joaquin Benoit got his fourth hold, and made everyone smile.

Notes from Saturday: Trevor Rosenthal had pitched three days in a row, so Seth Maness picked up the save on Saturday. Jordan Walden also had the day off. Sergio Casilla blew the save for the Giants on Saturday, and with a plus three ERA, I don’t know how long his leash is. Romo could be a decent sneaky grab. Huston Street nabbed his seventh save. Glen Perkins achieved his fourth save.

Of Note:Greg Holland(pectoral) will play catch today. I wish someone would play catch with me. Cody Allen is making us all sad. Funny how baseball is, Allen and Joakim Soria both give up an earned run, Soria gets his seventh save and Allen continues to make us cross. There’s a huge line of people in the Jonathan Papelbon fan club. He got his fourth save on Sunday, with Ken Giles getting a hold. Too bad Luis Garcia is on the Phillies, because he’d be fun to watch on a contender. Francisco Rodriguez earned his third save on Sunday. Neftali Feliz went two innings to get the win on Sunday. Glen Perkins made all of Minnesota smile as he saved his fifth for the Twins.

Just FYI, you linked David Roberts instead of David Robertson. Good report though, as always; keep it up guys!

not sure how Joel Peralta can be labeled as the closer now that he’s on the DL. Shouldn’t Yimi Garcia get some consideration?

With Peralta moving to the DL, Mattingly said he won’t name a Closer™, but how do you see the priority shaking out? Is Yimi the guy to have?

Peralta is on the DL with a dead arm, and Hatcher should not be in any game that LAD care about, so I think Yimi is your guy, and Baez is 2nd. The grid needs updating.

Seems like Oakland bullpen a mess. Any chance Cook ascends closer the ladder quickly now that he’s back?

Boston should be at least yellow. Farrell sounds frankly annoyed at his closer: http://www.patriotledger.com/article/20150427/SPORTS/150427062/2000/NEWS

There was a quote from Farrell where he basically said it was pretty easy for Lough to figure out what pitch was coming since he isn’t using the fastball. But Boston media seem to have edited that damning quotation out of their articles. Maybe someone can find it in cyberspace.

Saying your closer needs to build up arm strength is pretty strong language. Sounds like he would send him back down if it was his choice.

Al East fans of other clubs are hoping Uehara and his 85 mph fastball keep coming out with the game on the line. Games lost in April still count.

Can we move the Mets to green yet?

What is expectation when Jake McGee comes off DL? Any word there? Not far off.

My guess is McGee, Boxberger and Jepsen all will be in line for Saves with Boxberger and McGee being the two leading guys. Cash seems in favor of using his Bullpen my match ups, which leads me to believe McGee could get the Save one night and be pitching the 7th the next depending on the match up and game situation.

Boston should be red. Uehara is at career-low velocities for his fastball and splitter. His splitter command has been lousy. He’s not fully healthy.

Grilli or Ottavino ROS? Having a tough time deciding…

I would lean Ottavino. Colorado is a bit better than Atlanta, so that could mean some more Save chances. Plus, I think it’s FAR more likely that Grilli get’s traded this summer and becomes a Setup man with his new club, than the chances that Ottavino get’s traded. Grilli’s standard mixed league fantasy value would take a major hit if he isn’t getting Save chances.

Who has the better shot at acquiring saves this year…
Caminero, Betancourt, Axford or Randall Delgado?

Yeah, ‘Transaction Day’ for those of us in weekly leagues and we get something that tells us Joel Peralta is the Dodgers’ closer. Just ‘wow’.

Ben

so, I picked up Axford over Betancourt, because I don’t trust the above, what do others think now that Ottavino’s out?
