What’s On Second? (8/10/20-8/16/20)

Sometimes you are all set for the week. That doesn’t mean you shouldn’t start thinking about the future. This article takes a look ahead for the following week to see if maybe there are things to consider or players to stash that may not have as much value right now. Don’t forget to check out the companion article to this one, Who’s On First?

Things to Consider
Most prospects teams are trying to get an extra year of service time are now eligible to come up. We have already seen a few and more should be coming soon.

The Blue Jays, Indians, and Marlins only play five games in Week 2.

The Diamondbacks and Rangers play in Colorado.

The Rockies are at home all week! The Reds, Yankees, Blue Jays, Tigers, Astros, Angels, and Phillies are also only playing at home this week.

The Rays, Royals, Athletics, Mariners, Braves, Nationals, Pirates, and Padres are all on the road all week.

Double Headers are only seven inning games.

Pickups
Nate LoweJi-Man Choi has been dreadful and the Rays have plans on doing damage this year and can’t afford to keep running him out there.

Daulton Varsho– Varsho is an offense only catcher that could be a top 5-10 catcher if he gets consistent playing time. Also has a Colorado series coming up.

Spencer Howard– Once the Phillies are back, I assume Howard will follow shortly after.

MacKenzie Gore– Maybe the most recent Joey Lucchesi blow up means Gore is coming soon?

Dylan Carlson– As soon as the Cardinals start playing, Carlson should be up.

Daniel Lynch and Jackson KowarKris Bubic is already up, but Lynch and Kowar aren’t far behind. Time for the Royals to see what they have in these young arms.

Likely Two-Start Pitchers Worth Considering
Daniel Ponce De Leon- He’s also in my Who’s on First Article this week with a good matchup if the Cardinals get to play this week.

Tyler Mahle– Gets Kansas City and Pittsburgh in a two step.

Cristian Javier– Impressive in his first start and gets San Francisco and Seattle in an amazing two-start week.

Randy Dobnak– If he stays in the rotation he get Milwaukee on the road and Kansas City at home.
