The Daily Grind: Thursday Is Getting Thinner

1. The Daily Grind Invitational

Rojito found Jacob deGrom, Andrew Heaney, and Trevor Story. The combination supplied nearly 100 of his 164.75 points. Congrats and Leaderboard.

It’s the final Thin Thursday of the season. Join us for what is likely to be a 100 percent overlay (i.e. a $2 entry may have an expected value of $4) on FantasyDraft.

2. Weather Reports

Thin Thursday is likely to get a little bit thinner. The Astros-Orioles game is almost certain to be postponed. Luckily, it’s the first of a four game series so they’ll probably make it up.

3. Pitchers to Use and Abuse

Main Slate: Gerrit Cole ($24,700) is the top priced pitcher, but he’s not going to pitch. By all means, stay up to date with the latest weather reports. It’s supposed to rain all day and night.

Next up is Jon Lester ($18,500) hosting Trevor Williams ($17,900). This is the price we pay for three straight days packed with aces. Our best options are a former ace and a guy who has succeeded despite middling peripherals. Both of whom are overpriced. And the wind is blowing out to right field at Wrigley (only 9 mph). Great.

Marco Gonzales ($17,000) has an easy path to a victory. He should receive copious run support opposite Ariel Jurado. Also, he’s not a lock to throw five innings. He probably will. Just don’t be surprised if he only lasts four frames.

Julio Teheran is visiting CitiField and a pitcher friendly Mets management. To wit:

Teheran is generally solid and at $16,100, he’s responsibly priced. His opponent, Jason Vargas ($11,100), has posted 20 or more points in four of his last five starts. The Braves can beat up on soft lefties, but Vargas could be a sneaky bargain play.

Oh. That’s it. That’s everybody halfway playable. Except Francisco Liriano. He’s mimicking Vargas’ late-season resurrection. And here are the not-playable guys.

Stack Targets: Gabriel Moya, Ariel Jurado, Glenn Sparkman, Josh Tomlin, David Hess

4. SaberSim Says…

Cole |cliff of doom| Moya, Gonzales, Teheran, and Tomlin are The Sim’s preferred arms. Wither Lester (sixth) and Williams (ninth). Moya, Tomlin, Vargas, Liriano, and Gonzales are the value plays. Premo bats feature Ronald Acuna, Daniel Murphy, Anthony Rizzo, Starling Marte, and Javier Baez. Jose Osuna, Murphy, Logan Forsythe, Marte, and Nelson Cruz rule valueland.

5.Subplots
