The Daily Grind: Brad Is Hiring

The lede – a very temporary paid job as my subordinate – is buried in section five.

1. The Daily Grind Invitational

Roc-pile built a team of heroes (mostly Brewers) around Max Scherzer. Max Moroff, Travis Shaw, Orlando Arcia, and Manny Pina were the biggest surprises. They – along with Scherzer – fueled 128.35 of his 198.6 points. I know you all hate when I do this… roc-pile would have won the $5 GPP (a $250 reward). And guess what, he did win it! Congrats and Leaderboard.

We have a 30-user single-entry contest on FantasyDraft today. We had four overlays last week so I can’t blame them for a conservative contest size. I’ve tried to explain that a 52-user, two-entry contest is effectively smaller than 30-user, single-entry.

2. Weather Reports

The Royals game is an hour before DFS kickoff so it’s not part of the slate. There’s a 50 percent chance for storms. Detroit and Minnesota are comparably risky. Monitor closer to game time.

3. Pitchers to Use and Abuse

Main Slate: We have an eight game slate to use tonight. Although Patrick Corbin ($24,600) is the top priced pitcher, I fully expect Carlos Carrasco ($24,100) to win the ownership game. The Indians arguably have the softest matchup versus Mike Fiers. The Detroit lineup is Triple-A quality. This feels like Carrasco’s night to shine. Corbin, meanwhile, has experienced a loss of velocity and command in recent outings.

Rick Porcello is rock steady. I mean, sure, he flopped against the Yankees, but that’s not a normal opponent. The Athletics are decidedly normal. He should supply 20 points plus/minus five or so. Not bad for $20,500. Not great either.

When Lance McCullers ($19,700) is available, he typically carries one of the top ceilings in the slate. He’s also all-too-often a disappointment. The Angels are a challenging opponent. Andrew Heaney ($11,700) is an ultra high risk, medium-high reward bargain play. Think about him only for GPPs.

Either side of Tyler Anderson ($14,500) versus Joey Lucchesi ($16,100) is well-priced. Anderson tends to shove against the Padres. Lucchesi rarely pitches into the sixth inning. Both profile to deliver a strikeout per inning. Oh, relax, the game is at Petco Park.

If you’re looking for uber-bargains, it’s all too obvious to go with Chris Stratton ($10,800) or Sal Romano ($10,300). They’re both mid-tier pitchers facing bottom-tier lineups at pitcher haven AT&T Park.

Stack Targets: Fiers, Wade LeBlanc, Ryan Yarbrough, Eric Skoglund

Yarbrough is the mystery man in this group. He’s posted a tolerable 4.30 ERA and 3.97 FIP, but his peripherals are far less tasty. Since he’s facing the Royals, GPPers can go bold.

4. SaberSim Says…

Carrasco, Corbin, Anderson, Porcello, and Lucchesi are the top five pitchers tonight. Glad to see The Sim shares my opinion of Anderson and Lucchesi. Stratton, Junior Guerra, and Romano are the top values. Stack Indians with Francisco Lindor, Michael Brantley, Jose Ramirez, Mookie Betts, and Brian Dozier hogging the spotlight. Yonder Alonso, Matt Joyce, and Daniel Descalso are among the bargains.

5. Brad Is Hiring

I will be sans internet from June 22 through July 1. During this period, I’m looking to hire somebody to do the following duties:

  1. Compose brief daily reports about important happenings. Injuries, news, trades, closer changes, etc. These are for my eyes only and can be highly plagiarized (Craig Calcaterra’s “And That Happened” series could be a good place to lift happenings. MLBTR is a good resource too). I expect you to be able to put them together in about 10 minutes.
  2. Manage my fantasy teams. Most of my teams have redundancies built in so they can hit their GP and IP caps. It’s important to remove players who are sitting and sub in Brandon Nimmos who are starting. I may give you instructions for waiver moves and trades in some leagues. Others will require no intervention aside from injury replacements.

Must Have Qualifications:

  1. Available for the entirety of the specified time (June 22 to July 1).
  2. Available May 18, 19, and/or 20 for a trial run. This will be unpaid and only applies to preparing the daily briefs.

Nice to Have:

  1. I’m familiar with/recognize you
  2. You would like to become a professional writer
  3. You already participate in baseball twitter

Pay:

No more than $10/day (sorry, this is not a lucrative industry). Ideally, I’d like to be able to partially pay in kind via professional assistance (i.e. editing/advice, helping you land a first paid gig, other mentorship, etc.). Hence #2 on the “nice to have” list.

To Apply:

DM me on Twitter. Or email me pitchin432 AT yahoo.com. Twitter method is preferred. If you have work samples, please include links. No need for a cover letter or resume. In fact, do not send me a cover letter or resume. A brief introduction is acceptable (brief as in 280 characters), including places you’ve written. I will probably pick two or three applicants to provide a sample report or two.

We need to come up with a name for this person, because I was immediately reminded of the minions when I read this hahaha. Sulliminion? I am not applying, hence the rather poor use of language, but I leave the titling to those more imaginative than I!
