The Daily Grind: A Wink For Tomorrow, A deGrom For Today

Remarkably, Jesse Winker is still available in 66 percent of leagues. Today’s Streaming Wars contains additional Winker advice plus nine streamable pitchers for Tuesday, July 24. Winker is a DFS star too.

1. The Daily Grind Invitational

I had something come up last Friday and missed the contest. If somebody posts the results in the comments, I’ll updated the Leaderboard.

We’re doing our usual 52 entry no rake contest on FantasyDraft. You may enter twice.

2. Weather Reports

Watch out for storms in Baltimore, Philadelphia, Cincinnati, Cleveland, and New York. Expect reports to be inconsistent until closer to game time.

3. Pitchers to Use and Abuse

Main Slate: Tonight’s 13 game slate includes three aces, two good pitchers, two to four solid alternatives, and a bunch of slop. Luis Severino has top billing with a $25,600 price tag – probably because he’s very likely to earn a win opposite the Rays. However, he is not my favorite starter. Nor is second ranked Corey Kluber hosting the hot Pirates. He’ll run you $23,900. Instead, my preferred arm is Jacob deGrom against the massively strikeout prone Padres. This is a matchup made in heaven for the righty. Really, you can’t go wrong with all three aces.

Patrick Corbin ($21,100) seems a little pricey for a mid-summer visit to Wrigley Field. *checks wind* Well, at least it’s not supposed to be windy. Still, I think I’d rather find ace money or drop down a tier.

Ross Stripling ($19,900) has regressed from ace to solid right-hander. A visit to homer friendly Citizen’s Bank Park is a tad risky. Still, the price looks right to me. Steer clear of Zach Eflin in what could be a short return from the disabled list. $17,600 is too much to pay when dealing with a recent blister, CBP, and the Dodgers juggernaut.

Rick Porcello ($19,700) is a strong play against a neutered Orioles lineup. Kevin Gausman ($12,200) smells like a good value play despite the difficult matchup. He has a higher ceiling than most bargains. And an awful lot of risk.

Jaime Barria ($16,200) doesn’t often make long starts. He gets a buff to his strikeout rate opposite the White Sox. Newcomb also looks like a savvy play for strikeouts. He’ll run you $16,100 versus the Marlins.

Rummaging at the bottom of the barrel might turn up Eric Lauer. For $8,000, you’re likely to receive a solid return on your investment. He won’t outpitch deGrom, but he could easily earn a 50 percent ROI on his price.

Stack Targets: Hunter Wood, Lauer, Luis Santos, Heath Fillmyer, Lucas Giolito, Luke Farrell, Brett Anderson, Daniel Poncedeleon, Adalberto Mejia, Francisco Liriano

The supply of “fake” pitchers – i.e. players you may have never heard of – is high today.

4. SaberSim Says…

deGrom, Kluber, Severino, Stripling, and Corbin make up the top five pitchers. Lauer is the only bargain I’d try. deGrom ranks high on the value list too. Mike Trout, J.D. Martinez, Mookie Betts, Aaron Judge, and Matt Carpenter are the top hitters. Carp is hot. #understatement. Values include Delino DeShields, James McCann, Luis Valbuena, and Kole Calhoun. I recently had positive words to say about Calhoun ($1/mo paywall)

5.”Pitchers”

This one’s for Yancy Eaton. Where is everybody?

Here’s J.D. Davis looking like a stud reliever.

Here’s what I assume is an errant knuckleball. It’s hard to throw them off a mound.
