RotoGraphs Audio: The Sleeper and the Bust 11/26/2014

Episode 180

Happy Thanksgiving! The latest episode of “The Sleeper and the Bust” is live!

Eno Sarris and Nicholas Minnix talk about, among other newsy topics, the Boston Red Sox’s signings of Pablo Sandoval and Hanley Ramirez as well as the Chicago White Sox’s notable addition, Adam LaRoche. We also delve into a few listener questions presented to us on Twitter or in the comments – debates about keepers, things like that. We then put a bow on the discussion of end-of-season OF rankings, which went up a couple of weeks ago.

As usual, don’t hesitate to tweet us or comment with fantasy questions so that we may answer them in our next episode.

You can subscribe to the podcast on iTunes or via the feed.

Here are a few questions for the next podcast: Assuming it is about SP.

1) Do you buy Julio Teheran as a #1 starter? He has an Elite fastball(23% Whiffs/swing), an elite slider(35% whiffs/swing), a solid curveball(32% whiffs/swing), and elite sinker(15% whiffs/swing). This 4 pitch mix means players Swing(50% swing rate or 9th) and Miss(10.7% whiffs/swing). Only Kluber,Hamels,Felix,Scherzer,Grineke,MadBum,Strasbug, and Shark generated a higher SwgStk%. A solid 60% F-Strike rate suggest the control is real. So I might be buying the ERA more than the peripherals because I might buy that the K/9 is closer to 9 than 7.6 Thoughts? Zack Wheeler seems to be on a similar path

2) How will Martin signing effect R.A. Dickey? The effect of pitch framing on a knuckleballer seems incredibly interesting. Does it make them better…more than other pitchers because the unpredictability of the knuckler. ? Or is the KB so hard to frame it doesn;t matter.
