Ok. I’m up in ERA by over 1.5 (4 – 6.5) in my championship week. In order to match the innings amount and therefore compete in SOs I need to pick up a couple pitchers before week’s end.
Given my ERA and WHIP lead, these are the peeps I am looking to snag:
Rich Hill
JA Happ
I’ve got Arrieta, Duffy, Rodon, Severino, and McCullers still to throw.
Your thoughts? Thanks again for keeping up the game this late in the season. You guys are fucking killing it.
Are you worried that your other pitchers won’t be able to help you meet the innings minimum? Hill scares me, Happ does not, but at this point I feel like nobody is reliable in terms of innings. Plenty of guys could be skipped, especially those like Happ who may pitch in the playoffs.
Not worried about innings limit, but I am worried about losing the counting stats (Ks, W/Ls, and QSs.
Basically, and as you said this is dangerous, I am looking at my pitchers compared with my opponents. He’s got Corbin, Cueto (likely going to be skipped I assume), Buerhle, Archer, Estrada, McHugh, and Shields left to toss.
That’s a great point about playoff team’s pitching staffs. As I wrote that I realized that Arrieta’s a likely no go, as making a start tomorrow would mean he pitches on the fifth day of rest for the WC Game.
Also, be careful about guys having shortened “tune-up” outings. They might go for just three innings or something in preparation for their playoff starts.
It’s a very questionable part of the year for sure. I don’t like Duffy, but I trust just about everyone else you listed if they indeed start.
