Roto Riteup: Wednesday, September 14th, 2011

It’s been about a month and a half since the Cardinals dealt Colby Rasmus to the Blue Jays, so why not check in on that whole situation?

– Since the move, Jon Jay has responded by hitting around .300 with a few homers in just over 30 starts for St. Louis. Unfortunately, he’s not really stealing bases, so it looks like he’ll simply be a batting average guy next year. It shouldn’t be too hard to snag him late in drafts, just don’t expect more than .290/10/5.

– Colby Rasmus, on the other hand, has struggled. He’s currently in the minor leagues on a rehab assignment, but his brief stint in the AL was not a pretty one. Rasmus was swinging away, likely pressing in an effort to impress his new club, and it hurt him. Looks for the Blue Jays to try and refine the center fielder’s swing next season in an attempt to get him back to a line drive approach instead of trying to hit homers every time up.

– Edwin Jackson hasn’t been anything special under the arch, putting up numbers reminiscent of his 2009 season with the Tigers. I doubt he ends up back in Cardinals’ Red next season, so don’t pay much mind to him unless he winds up signing with a team who enjoys and comfy pitchers’ park.

Now to the rest of your morning Riteup:

– While Hank Conger was a nice prospect coming into the season, I think it’s safe to say he’s going to be undraftedable next year. The Angels are still allowing Mike Scioscia give up a spot in the lineup every day to get Mathis’ glove behind the dish, and Conger hasn’t hit enough to force his way into the lineup quite yet. Heck, Mike Napoli killed the ball and could barely squeeze his way onto the lineup card every day. If you want to spend a dollar on Conger in a dynasty auction, go for it, but I wouldn’t do much more than that.

– After dominating for a stretch, it seems Jeff Niemann has come back down to earth. He seems to be giving up homers left and right now, which clearly isn’t acceptable. I still like Niemann as an interesting late round selection in deep AL-only leagues next year, but after the glimpse we got a month or two ago, that’s not saying much.

A Pitcher for Today: Rich Harden vs LAA
Harden’s ERA hasn’t been real pretty this year, but he’s been a strikeout machine at times, and I’m going to do everything I can to get him when he pitches at home against a non-elite offense.

A Pitcher for Tomorrow: Dana Eveland vs PIT
In case you didn’t know, Eveland is a member of the Los Angeles Dodgers. He hasn’t walked the world in his first two starts this year, but this is a day you should just stay away from streaming.

Pick Six Lock of the Day: Ivan Nova ($.50) at SEA
I’ve just got a feeling that Nova pitches in a gem in Safeco Field.
Prediction: 7 IP, 2 BB, 9 K; 23.5 points
Last Week’s Results: 3 players, $72.50, 19 points

So you’re saying good to start Eveland tomorrow?
