Roto Riteup: September 26, 2023

Me trying to finish off the 2023 season:

On the Agenda:

  1. Quick Hits
  2. Various News and Notes
  3. Streaming Pitchers

Quick Hits

Patrick Sandoval left his start on Monday with oblique tightness. This could end his season which would be unfortunate with a matchup versus the As on Sunday scheduled.

Austin Wells went 2-for-4 with a home run in the victory over the Diamondbacks on Wednesday.

Wells has struggled since being called up for the Yankees, hitting just .185/.224/.370 with two home runs and seven RBIs. He has been unlucky with a .195 BABIP, but the lack of in zone contact is troubling. He is the future as the Yankees backstop, but he needs to show better skills to be considered as a draftable option for 2024.

Logan O’Hoppe went 2-for-4 with a home run in the loss to the Rangers on Monday.

O’Hoppe missed a lot of time being in the minors and then on the injured list, but when he has been on the field, he has been a really productive player. He is likely to be a popular later catcher target as has shown a really mature bat that could be a force in the middle of the Angels lineup next season.

Jon Gray threw six innings versus the Angels, allowing one earned run on five hits and no walks while striking out seven in the victory on Monday.

Gray was fantastic in the outing, getting a 49% CSW on his slider. Unfortunately, he left the game after six innings because of wrist soreness. He has a scheduled start later in the week versus the Mariners, but if the Rangers have a playoff spot clinched by then, he could find himself missing that start. There is risk to Gray as he had just come off a disaster outing, but the upside is tantalizing especially when there are so few options available late in the season.

Streaming Pitchers (Under 50% in CBS)

Pitcher for Today: Paul Blackburn at MIN

I came close to not recommending anyone, but with the season coming to a close, we are all looking for streams and Blackburn has a decent two-step here to finish off the season.

High Risk Options: Adrian Houser vs STL, Zack Thompson at MIL, Tanner Houck vs TB.

Pitcher for Tomorrow: Matt Waldron vs SF

Waldron has pitched well since entering the Padres rotation and gets a bad San Francisco offense at home.

High Risk Options: Sean Manaea vs SD, Griffin Canning vs TEX.

For those of you that would like to see how these picks play out, I have a doc I put together to track the stats from my recommended pitchers. It does not include the “High Risk Options.”

I’m in a deep league and very close in steals and ks. If McLain comes back today, do you cut McCarthy (not playing much), Luciano or Waldron? Thank you! Recognize tough to answer, any help is appreciated!
