Roto Riteup: September 13, 2015

Today’s Roto Riteup loudly celebrates the true beginning of the NFL season.

On today’s agenda:
1. Uh Oh, Tulo
2. Various news and notes
3. Streaming Pitcher Options

Uh Oh, Tulo
Troy Tulowitzki collided with Kevin Pillar in the first game of the team’s doubleheader yesterday, and an MRI showed he has a small crack in his left shoulder blade, as well as muscle bruises in his upper back — whatever that means. The good news is that Tulowitzki might be back for the Blue Jays postseason run, but the bad news is it almost certainly won’t be before then, meaning fantasy owners will have to be without their shortstop for their playoff matchups or last ditch efforts in roto leagues.

Tulo has actually been a disappointment in Toronto, so in terms of actual production, owners won’t be missing much over the next few weeks. However, they will be missing the upside that comes with Tulo potentially turning it on and mashing for a stretch, an upside that will impossible to replace on the waiver wire.

Various news and notes

Corey Seager has gone 14-for-30 in the big leagues, walked six times, and struck out just four times. Seager hit his first big league homer last night, and his fifth double. Seager has easily forced his way into incumbency next spring.

Marcus Stroman wasn’t great in his return from injury last night, but it’s impressive enough that he returned at all this year. Stroman made it through five innings against the Yankees, striking out two, walking two, and allowing a homer. His velocity was right in line with 2014 norms.

Despite playing in Safeco instead of Camden Yards or the Ballpark in Arlington, Nelson Cruz has set a new career high in homers, bashing his 41st last night. Combining the past two seasons, no one has come within 10 homers of Cruz’s current 81.

Doubleheader alert! After raining out yesterday, the Tigers and Twins will play two today.

Streaming Pitcher Options
If you enjoy streaming pitchers or play DFS, tune into the Roto Riteup for recommendations each and every day.

A pitcher for today: Brad Hand vs WAS (Max Scherzer)
Hand will be available for cheap and can easily turn in a quality start at home. Build your lineup knowing your second SP will allow you some flexibility.

A pitcher for tomorrow: Logan Verrett vs MIA (Justin Nicolino)
We’ve seen what Verrett can do as both a reliever and a spot starter this year. Let’s go for another round.
