Roto Riteup — presented by DraftKings: September 19, 2014

Good news, Roto Riteup readers! You get to read me today and tomorrow instead of Mr. Wiers, who I assume is meeting up with his fellow serial killers at a convention center in Florida.

On today’s agenda:
1. Giancarlo Stanton done for the year
2. Jered Weaver will start Saturday
3. Nolan Arenado’s 2014 may be done
4. Taijuan Walker starting today
5. The Friday Five

Giancarlo Stanton done for the year
It should come as no surprise, but Giancarlo isn’t returning to baseball this year after getting his face smashed in by an errant pitch. His recovery from facial fractures will take about two months time, and though there could certainly be issues of mindset, the slugger will be physically ready to have much of a normal offseason.

Jered Weaver will start Saturday
Weaver’s regular turn in the rotation came and went yesterday, so he’ll now start Saturday against the Rangers. Weaver wasn’t scratched due to an injury, but so the Angels can get him set up to take the ball in the first game of the ALDS. Weaver’s current 3.50 ERA and 1.20 WHIP are his worst marks since 2009.

Nolan Arenado’s 2014 may be done
The Rockies third baseman has been dealing with a nasty bout of pneumonia recently, and it’s bad enough that he may not take the field again this year. If he’s done for the year, Arenado will end 2014 with a .287/.328/.500 line, adding 18 ding-dongs and two steals. Arenado’s age-24 season will come next year, and it could be exciting to see how an already good player can improve.

Taijuan Walker starting today
The Mariners are going to be starting top prospect Walker in place of Roenis Elias, who is assumed to be done for the year with an elbow issue. Walker has struggled with his command this year, but his overwhelming pure stuff has been able to get him out of some jams. Walker will start on the road against the Astros, whom he has not faced this year. If you’re looking for a surprise stream in your playoff matchup, Walker could be your guy.
