Jered Weaver leaves his start
Weaver couldn’t make it to the third inning last night before he was pulled due to lower back tightness. Weaver wasn’t pitching poorly — he threw two innings of perfection — but he felt something while warming up for the third. He’s considered day-to-day as of writing.

Marco Scutaro’s rehab is progressing
The Giants are close to getting to their second baseman back, as Scutaro is moving up to Triple-A to finish off his rehab assignment. Scutaro has missed the entire season with a bad back, and Giants’ second baseman have hit .186/.283/.309 in his absence. Scutaro was still quite good last year, but at age 38 and with a nasty back, 2014 is up in the air. His upside is a plug-n-play guy in standard leagues, but NL-OBP owners should certainly be interested.

Cole Gillespie to platoon in Toronto
After being being waived by the Mariners over the weekend, Gillespie has found his way to the Blue Jays and will platoon with Adam Lind for the time being. Lind has pretty much always needed a platoon partner, with his split against lefties at 100 wOBA points lower. Gillespie doesn’t have much of a career sample to work from, but he has hit .275 with a .351 OBP against southpaws this year.

Ricky Nolasco needs an MRI
Nolasco is going to slide into the tube today to get his elbow examined. Apparently Nolasco has been having elbow problems all year long, so maybe that’s why he’s been quite bad in his first season in Minnesota. With the Twins playoff odds at less than 0.5%, it’s in the team’s best interest to protect their investment in Nolasco.

Quick SP question, I have been offered Josh Beckett or Jose Quintana in exchange for either Jesse Hahn or Dallas Kuechel, any preference between these four pitchers? I like that Beckett pitches for the best overall team and his K rate is solid, but worry about his “minor” leg injuries he has had the past couple starts. Hahn is such a small sample size to judge and Kuechel started the year out gangbusters, but has been kinda average over the last month.

Keep Kuechel. Too early to say about Hahn, and he only has two pitches. Beckett is too iffy, you are right.

I’d go for Quintana. Ownership numbers are down but he’s healthy, as opposed to Beckett and Keuchel, and steadily improving.
