Quick Hits

Spencer Turnbull signed a one year deal with the Blue Jays on Monday. He will build up in the minor leagues, but expect him to join the rotation when ready.

José Ureña also signed a one year deal with the Blue Jays. He is expected to pitch in the bullpen.

Shoto Imanaga was placed on the IL with a hamstring strain. There is no timetable for his return.

Yordan Alvarez was placed on the IL with hand inflammation. The move is retroactive to May 3rd. There is hope that it will be a minimum stay.

Jesse Winker was placed on the IL with an oblique strain. He will likely miss 6-to-8 weeks with the injury. Brett Baty was recalled to take his spot on the roster.

A.J. Minter will miss the rest of the season with a lat injury.

Teoscar Hernández left Monday’s game with a hamstring injury:

The Dodgers have characterized it as hamstring tightness, but he is expected to undergo an MRI on Tuesday. Consider him day-to-day at this time.

Tyler Callihan left Monday’s game with an arm injury.

Callihan broke his forearm on the play and will miss significant time. He is a drop in all formats.

Various News and Notes
Hyeseong Kim 김혜성 went 2-for-4 with a stolen base in the victory over the Marlins on Monday.

Kim is up in the Majors with Tommy Edman on the IL with an ankle injury. There likely isn’t a lot of power in the profile, but he has some speed and can make a lot of contact. He will hit at the bottom of the lineup, but could be a decent speed/average play in deeper formats.

Carson Kelly went 1-for-4 with a home run in the victory over the Giants on Monday.

Kelly is hitting .361/.500/.820 with eight home runs and 23 RBIs this season. He is definitely getting lucky, but he is just a ton of contact, not swinging outside the zone at all and being very aggressive inside the zone. He will slow down at some point, but you have to ride the hot streak while this is going as well as it is.

AJ Smith-Shawver threw eight scoreless innings versus the Reds, allowing one hit and four walks while striking out five in the victory on Monday.

Smith-Shawver was fantastic, getting a 33% whiff rate on the curve and a 31% whiff rate on the splitter. He has struggled with command and control at times in the Majors, but the 22 year old has good stuff and could be in the rotation if he can harness it.

Streaming Pitchers (Under 50% in CBS)

Pitcher for Today: Sean Burke at KC

This one is risky, but there aren’t a ton of great options and Burke is coming off of his best start this year. He is facing a bad Royals offense in a good park, so I think it is worth the gamble.

High Risk Options: Jeffrey Springs vs SEA, Colin Rea vs SF, Cade Povich at MIN.

Pitcher for Tomorrow: Gunnar Hoglund vs SEA

Hoglund looked really good in his first MLB start, but there is some risk here in Sacramento versus a hot Mariners offense.

High Risk Options: Ben Brown vs SF, Simeon Woods Richardson vs BAL, Logan T. Allen at WAS, Jonathan Cannon at KC.

For those of you that would like to see how these picks play out, I have a doc I put together to track the stats from my recommended pitchers. It does not include the “High Risk Options.”

FWIW Urena was announced as today’s starter for the Jays. Not that anyone should rush to add or stream.
