If you’re still waking up, the Orioles just gave some pretty bad news from their bullpen. Zach Britton landed on the 10-day disabled list with a left forearm strain.

Dodgers first baseman Adrian Gonzalez also landed on the disabled list Friday for the first time in his 14-year career. Cody Bellinger took over responsibilities and went 3-for-5 with two home runs and four RBI in the win over the Padres.

He hit two bombs last week and Manager Dave Roberts went on record to say that wouldn’t impact his decision to send Bellinger back to Triple-A. Things are a little different now, obviously. So we get to witness the excellence of Bellinger.

News and Notes

Bryce Harper was out of the lineup Friday with a groin strain. He should be back this weekend against the Phillies.

Chris Tillman should make his season debut Sunday when he comes off the disabled list. His throwing session went well Friday and should start in the series finale against the White Sox. During his rehab assignments, it’s been…interesting.

Across three minor league teams, the 29-year-old managed to give up seven home runs with a 13.06 FIP in 16.1 innings. Yikes.

Ryan Zimmerman is still hitting the you-know-what out of the ball. Leads the league in multiple categories including a 1.358 OPS. He’s currently slashing a .433/.474/.885 line with 12 home runs and 31 RBI. He’s on fire.

Gold, man. Solid Gold

Speaking of on fire.

If you are a fan of the daily game, it’s fun to watch the monetary values of bats when the game takes place in Denver. Especially when some of your pitchers end up being close to the same price as the offensive prices skyrocket.

Paul Goldschmidt was very expensive and highly owned, but it worked out. At Coors Field, he went 3-for-3 with two bombs and five RBI in the defeat of the Rockies Friday.

Mar-Win

Marwin Gonzalez is so hot right now. Last week, he hit a home run in four straight games.

He’s slashing a .269/.375/.701 line with a 193 wRC+ and a 13.4% walk rate. The Astros team is a tad bit crowded, but A.J. Hinch has no problem cutting away some playing time from others to make sure Gonzalez gets exposure. So don’t worry about that aspect.

Whatever mechanical changes he worked on during the offseason is obviously paying off.

Yet another “so hot right now” sighting though. Season total is up to approx. 13
