Roto Riteup: May 25, 2022

This made me laugh way too hard:

On the Agenda:
1. Sleeper and the Bust DK Contest
2. COVID Issues
3. Closer Chaos
4. Quick Hits
5. Various News and Notes
6. Streaming Pitchers

COVID Issues
Luis Robert was placed on the COVID IL. He has been symptomatic which likely means he will miss at least five days, if not longer.

Closer Chaos
Aroldis Chapman was placed on the IL with an achilles tendon injury. The injury is not thought to be serious as there was no structural damage seen in imaging. Clay Holmes will likely serve as the Yankees closer in the meantime.

Quick Hits
Daniel Vogelbach was placed on the IL with a hamstring strain. There is no timetable for his return.

Hunter Renfroe was placed on the IL with a hamstring strain. He is expected to miss at least a couple of weeks.

Giancarlo Stanton left Tuesday’s game with calf tightness. This is disappointing as he was having a great start to his season. Consider him day-to-day for now.

Various News and Notes
Roansy Contreras threw five scoreless innings in a no-decision versus the Rockies, allowing just three hits and two walks while striking out five.

Contreras was as advertised in this one, throwing 97mph while devastating batters with his slider. There will be hiccups along the way as he has trouble at times harnessing his stuff which will lead to walks and homers when he loses his control or command, but the upside is immense and he should be rostered in all formats.

Joc Pederson went 4-for-6 with three home runs in the victory over the Mets on Tuesday night.

Pederson had a fantastic night at the plate and now has 10 home runs on the season for the Giants as they platoon him perfectly in San Francsico. Unfortunately, his platooning means he becomes difficult to use in weekly formats and he is best served in daily moves leagues or in DFS where he scored 55 points in DraftKings and I am not bitter at all about that:

Jose Trevino went 3-for-4 with a home run and a walk in the victory over the Orioles on Tuesday.

Trevino hasn’t been anything special this season, but he hasn’t been bad sporting a 99 wRC+ at a position in which most players are actively hurting you. He is more of a low end C2, but he is probably a bit underrated and more importantly this gives me the opportunity to share his postgame interview in which he honored his dad which was especially poignant for me as today is the 13th anniversary of my father’s passing.

This is one of the reasons I love baseball. The moments are so meaningful.

Streaming Pitchers (Under 50% in CBS)

Pitcher for Today:  None

Some interesting high risk starters, but none that I am really trusting.

High Risk Options:  Aaron Ashby at SD, Dylan Bundy vs DET, Jakob Junis vs NYM, Rich Hill at CHW, Zach Thompson vs COL, Tyler Wells at NYY, Glen Otto at LAA.

Pitcher for Tomorrow: None

Only six pitchers qualify and I don’t love any of them.

High Risk Options:  Patrick Corbin vs COL, Daniel Lynch at MIN

For those of you that would like to see how these picks play out, I have a doc I put together to track the stats from the recommended pitchers. It does not include the “High Risk Options.”

Patrick Corbin vs WAS

Is that going to be an intra-squad game?
