Roto Riteup: May 23rd, 2012
Today’s Roto Riteup is just like the first pitcher discussed: run of the mill, and in need of some minor league seasoning.
• Daniel Hudson is getting ready to come back to the bigs this weekend, so that means no more Patrick Corbin in Arizona. Corbin pitched okay in the majors, but he could still use a go around in Triple-A before he comes back to the NL West.
• Have you checked out Felipe Paulino’s stats lately? 10.30 K/9, 4.14 K/BB, 95.8 mph fastball. If you don’t find those sexy, then you have an ugly soul and deserve to be alone. I’m talking to you, Jimmy.
• Lost in the hysteria surrounding guys like Josh Hamilton, Adams Jones and Raul Ibanez is Blue Jays catcher J.P. Arencibia. JPA has hit five homers in the past two weeks, jumping up out of his early season slump. JPA is hitting .264 thanks to his pop, but his lack of patience at the plate is killing his value in OBP leagues. Power from the catcher position at nice, but not at the expense of a sub-.300 OBP.
• Dee Gordon is back in the Dodgers lineup, but he’s now hitting eighth. It’s going to be hard for Gordon to steal bases when pitchers have free reign to let loose against pitchers, but his speed is still too legit to quit. If he can stop striking out, he’s one of the most interesting fantasy players out there.
For those of you who play daily fantasy games like FanGraphs: The Game, or just like to stream players, here are a couple matchups you may be able to exploit.
A Pitcher for Today: Scott Feldman at SEA
Feldman’s 2012 numbers aren’t great, but I still like him as a starter.
A Pitcher for Tomorrow: Eric Stults at NYM
There’s only seven games, so Stults it is. Other guys to look for: Jason Vargas and Joe Blanton.
A Hitter for Today: Matt Adams vs SDP (Jeff Suppan)
Why not give the big guy a shot against a sub-par pitcher?

Feldman is a a good pick for sure, especially against the Mariners, even though he’s not likely to get you many Ks, I like his chance at beating Millwood for a W. I also like Niese and Pettitte today. Lots of solid picks. Estrada is a good choice again for deep leagues.
