Sleeper and the Bust DK Contest

On most Tuesday’s and Friday’s and some other days, Paul Sporer and I will be doing a $5 draftkings game for anyone that is interested.

Closer Chaos

Manager Brandon Hyde reaffirmed that Craig Kimbrel is the Orioles closer. Kimbrel has been up and down this season, but this is reassuring for fantasy managers. If Kimbrel were to lose the role, Yennier Cano would be next up.

Quick Hits

Xander Bogaerts left Monday’s game with a shoulder injury.

Scans on the shoulder were negative. Consider him day-to-day for now.

Zach Eflin was placed on the IL with a back issue. There is no timetable for his return.

Joe Ross left Monday’s start with back stiffness. He is expected to go on the IL.

He was diagnosed with a hip contusion. Consider him day-to-day for now.

Various News and Notes
Ryan Weathers threw seven innings allowing one earned run on two hits and three walks while striking out eight in the no-decision versus the Brewers on Monday.

Weathers has now allowed just one earned run over 15 innings in his last two starts. His sweeper was fantastic getting a 67% whiff rate while his changeup got a 58% whiff rate. This was a very encouraging outing versus a good Milwaukee offense.

Jake McCarthy went 2-for-4 with a home run in the loss to the Dodgers.

McCarthy is hitting .283/.357/.414 with two home runs and three stolen bases this season. He has been making a lot of contact in the zone and has lowered his O-Swing rate in the process. He doesn’t hit the ball hard, but he is getting on base at a 10% clip and we have seen him be a pretty great source of stolen bases in the past.

Streaming Pitchers (Under 50% in CBS)

Pitcher for Today: Robert Gasser at MIA

It is surprising to see Gasser so lowly rostered at this point and add in this matchup and it is an easy stream.

High Risk Options: Alec Marsh vs DET, Griffin Canning at HOU, Cal Quantrill at OAK, Cooper Criswell at TB, Aaron Brooks vs COL.

Pitcher for Tomorrow: Simeon Woods Richardson at WAS

Woods Richardson has pitched well and has a nice matchup here.

High Risk Options: Jake Irvin vs MIN, Austin Gomber at OAK, Taijuan Walker vs TEX, Hunter Brown vs LAA.

For those of you that would like to see how these picks play out, I have a doc I put together to track the stats from my recommended pitchers. It does not include the “High Risk Options.”
