Roto Riteup: May 21, 2016

Somehow, the NBA decided that they didn’t need a playoff game yesterday, which left this Roto Riteup author with more time for white hot baseball analysis.

Various News and Notes
Shin-Soo Choo lasted all of a few innings off the DL before having to be removed with a different injury. Choo, who was on the DL with a calf injury, left in the third with a hamstring injury. Maybe Choo misses the weekend, but he won’t be needing another stint off the active roster. Choo played in just five games prior to yesterday, and he’s looking to repeat a solid 2015 campaign in the third year of a seven year deal.

Marcell Ozuna continues to spit hot fire, hitting his eighth homer of the season. Ozuna is still hitting over .300 for the moment, but one should expect him to hit around .275 the rest of the way, which is certainly nothing to ignore.

It’s about time that Wily Peralta move to the bullpen. Peralta’s ERA actually dropped after a five-plus inning, three run outing against the Mets, but it still sits at about 7.00. Despite a fastball that sits comfortably in the mid-90s with movement, Peralta’s never quite been able to become a consistently effective starter. Perhaps in the bullpen, where he could gear up to fire fastballs and sliders by hitters, Peralta will find a role before hitting free agency in a couple years.

CC Sabathia was activated from the disabled list, and started yesterday’s game against the Athletics. Sabathia’s velocity was down to the high-80s before hitting the DL, and at 35 years old, this may be the new normal. Despite a good start last night, Sabathia’s value to the Yankees this year — and most likely next — is to eat up innings and not be awful. While a big name and a big man, CC has little fantasy relevance.

It’s not been a good year for Anibal Sanchez. The Detroit right-hander has an ERA above 6.00, and is walking batters like it’s 2009. We saw Sanchez allow too many homers last year, but now his command has taken a fat dump, and the 32-year-old is in desperate need of a fix. Once a bounceback candidate for 2016, Anibal is now at the bottom of the waiver wire.

Aaron Nola gave up two homers yesterday — one to Freddie Freeman and one to Nick Markakis — in his second truly poor start of the year. Only two of the five runs allowed by Nola were earned, but the Braves are a sad sack of an offense, so any runs is really too many.

Streaming Pitcher Options
If you enjoy streaming pitchers or play DFS, tune into the Roto Riteup for recommendations each and every day.

A pitcher for today: Robbie Ray at STL (Mike Leake)
Ray may not be awesome, but he’s figured out how to get Ks and has the advantage of being outside of Arizona.

A pitcher for tomorrow: Wade Miley at CIN (Alfredo Simon)
Miley isn’t as attractive outside of Safeco, but he’s pitched in hitter friendly ballparks before, and he may be facing somewhat of a B-lineup for a bad team.
