Today’s Roto Riteup is on the fence about shorts. They’re not pants, but they also are.

Say goodnight to Luis Severino
The young Yankees right-hander didn’t make it out of the third inning of yesterday’s start before being removed with an elbow injury, and he was placed on the 15-day DL while the night was still young. Before being yanked, Severino had allowed seven earned on seven hits and four walks. Called up last year, Severino made a splash, posting an ERA under 3.00 in nearly a dozen starts. At 22 years of age and a 95 MPH fastball, Severino looked like a future stud, even in the unfriendly AL East. While Severino’s velocity has held this year and he’s cut down on walks, he’ll hit the DL with a HR/9 north of 2.00, and a FIP nearing 5.50. Severino’s injury is officially to his triceps, which we all know is code for “dear sweet lordy his elbow is halfway to becoming property of Hades”, but he’s still worth the DL stash until we find out anything more (read: worse).
Various News and Notes
The Rangers have cut ties with Delino DeShields V2.0 for the time being, sending the centerfielder to the minors after he hit just .217 in 30 games. DeShields, still just 23 years old, was a beautiful surprise last year as a Rule V selection, but an increased strikeout rate won’t work so well when you’re a tiny little man who relies on his speed. Nomar Mazara is in the clear for now, and Ryan Rua will presumably get a chance to hold down an outfield spot.
After sending down DeShields, the Rangers recalled Matt Bush, the former No. 1 pick turned America’s Most Wanted. I wrote about Bush in this year’s Bold Predictions, and he could be competing for saves around the All-Star break if all goes well.
Andrew Cashner, he of a fetching beard an ERA nearing 5.00, will be on the disabled list at least the next couple weeks with a hamstring strain. Cashner has flashed immense potential over the years, but the results have never matched the stuff. It would not be a huge surprise for a team to gamble on him later this year as a power bullpen arm.
Streaming Pitcher Options
If you enjoy streaming pitchers or play DFS, tune into the Roto Riteup for recommendations each and every day.
A pitcher for today: Kendall Graveman at TBR (Matt Andriese)
Is this to troll one David Wiers? No, of course not, that would be juvenile and completely benea…wait, it totally is. I love me some Logan Verrett, but he’s stuck in Coors, so perhaps Ervin Santana is the only decent option today.
A pitcher for tomorrow: Tyler Duffey at CLE (Trevor Bauer)
We’re through 13 starts over two different seasons. Are the Twins finally ready to commit to the Duff Man in the long run?
