Me getting ready for April Fools Day:

On the Agenda:

  1. Quick Hits
  2. Various News and Notes
  3. Streaming Pitchers

Quick Hits

Luis Matos was traded to the Brewers for cash. Matos was designated for assignment by the Giants recently, ending his tenure in San Francisco. Matos was a top prospect at one point within the Giants system but he will likely just be outfield depth in Milwaukee.

Cody Ponce 폰세 left Monday’s game with a knee injury.

He will likely undergo testing on Tuesday. Consider him day-to-day at this time, but this will likely be an IL stint and could be a lengthy absence.

Various News and Notes
Miguel Vargas went 2-for-5 with a grand slam in the victory over the Marlins on Monday.

Vargas is a former top prospect that has struggled so far in career, but he has pop and a good eye at the plate. He should get plenty of playing time in Chicago and is worth picking up in most formats where he is still available.

Jack Leiter threw six innings versus the Orioles on Monday, allowing two earned runs on five hits and a walk while striking out eight in the victory.

The most important part was Leiter only had one walk and the command was good for most of the outing. He got a 64% whiff rate on the slider and mixed all of his pitches very well. If the command and control are in check, the sky is the limit for him.

Nolan Gorman went 1-for-4 with a home run in the loss to the Mets on Monday.

Gorman has two homers already this season, but power has never been an issue for the former top prospect. The issue has been his inability to hit lefties and the massive swing and miss. He is striking out at a 21% rate so far this year which is a great start, so we will need to see if he is able to keep up the contact skills.

Kyle Harrison threw five innings versus the Rays on Monday, allowing one run on four hits and a walk while striking out eight in the no-decision.

Harrison is a former top prospect that flopped with the Giants, but after being traded twice in a year from San Francisco to Boston to Milwaukee, he looks like a different pitcher with a sharper breaking ball and better command. He is a priority pick up in leagues where he is still available.

Landen Roupp threw five scoreless innings, allowing two hits and two walks while striking out seven in the win versus the Padres on Monday.

Roupp has added velocity early this season and it has made his stuff sharper. However, consistency has been his biggest issue so far in his career so we need to see if he can continue to repeat his mechanics.

Streaming Pitchers (Under 50% in Yahoo)

Pitcher for Today: Max Scherzer vs COL

Just picking on Colorado again.

Other Options: Zach Eflin vs TEX

Pitcher for Tomorrow: None

There are some high risk options available, but none I feel great about.

Other Options: Noah Cameron vs MIN, Shane Smith at MIA, Luis Severino at ATL

For those of you that would like to see how these picks play out, I have a doc I put together to track the stats from my recommended pitchers. It does not include the “Other Options.”
