Closer Chaos

Braves manager Brian Snitker stated that Raisel Iglesias will no longer be the primary closer. Iglesias has struggled mightily and over the weekend the Braves turned to Pierce Johnson who promptly lost two games to the Giants. The Braves could turn to Aaron Bummer or Dylan Lee, but this is looking like it might be a committee.

Tony Santillan pitched a clean ninth inning for the Reds to register the save on Sunday against the Diamondbacks.

This was a bit odd as Emilio Pagan was available having not pitched since Friday. It may be a matchup issue as some of the Diamondbacks’ heavy hitters were up. This may be something to keep an eye on however.

Trade (and Rumors)

LaMonte Wade Jr. was traded to the Angels on Sunday for cash. Wade was designated for assignment over the weekend and the Giants were able to make a deal to get something back. He will likely just be infield depth for the Angels.

Quick Hits

Kerry Carpenter left Sunday’s game with a hamstring injury. Carpenters stated after the game that he is ok and isn’t going to miss any time. Consider him day-to-day at this time.

Matt Chapman jammed his wrist during the game on Sunday, but was able to stay on the field. X-rays were negative after the game. Consider him day-to-day for now.

Various News and Notes

Michael McGreevy threw six innings against the Dodgers, allowing four runs on eight hits and no walks while striking out five in the loss on Sunday.

McGreevy pitched well in spite of the tough matchup getting a 38% whiff rate on his slider. He pitched really well in AAA this season, allowing a 2.78 ERA in 55 innings with over a strikeout an inning. He should be picked up in deeper formats.

Jeff McNeil went 3-for-5 with two home runs in the victory over the Rockies on Sunday.

McNeil has quietly been pretty good this season, hitting .257/.355/.533 with six home runs and a stolen base in 124 plate appearances. McNeil isn’t going to hit for a ton of power, but he can be a great batting average asset and because he hits in the middle of a great Mets lineup, he will accumulate a good amount of counting stats.

Streaming Pitchers (Under 50% in CBS)

Pitcher for Today: Aaron Civale vs ATL

Civale has pitched well lately and is facing a struggling Braves offense at home.

Other Options: Brayan Bello vs TB, Emerson Hancock at ARI.

Pitcher for Tomorrow: David Festa vs TEX

Festa is returning to the Majors and gets a bad Rangers offense at home.

Other Options: Jose Soriano vs ATH, Lucas Giolito vs TB, Sawyer Gipson-Long at BAL, Quinn Priester vs ATL, Slade Cecconi vs TEX.

For those of you that would like to see how these picks play out, I have a doc I put together to track the stats from my recommended pitchers. It does not include the “Other Options.”

Re Reds: I think Pagan pitched Saturday to finish out a suspended game from earlier in the week. Santillan did too, though, so still worth noting the Reds went w him on Sunday rather than Pagan.
