Sleeper and the Bust DK Contest

On most Tuesday’s and Friday’s and some other days, Paul Sporer and I will be doing a $5 draftkings game for anyone that is interested.

Trade Rumors!

The Washington Nationals have put Jeimer Candelario on the trade block according to Jon Morosi of MLB Network.
Candelario is hitting .263/.338/.471 with 10 home runs and four stolen bases this year while playing a decent third base. With a number of contenders in need of infield boosting, he might be an attractive option for teams not wanting to spend a ton on the pending free agent.

Quick Hits

Reese Olson left Thursday’s game after getting hit with a comebacker.

Olson stated after the game that the injury wasn’t expected to be serious. Consider him day-to-day for now.

Corbin Carroll left Thursday’s game with shoulder soreness.

While initially this seemed a bit scary given Carroll’s injury history in the minors, it appears to be mostly precautionary. Consider him day-to-day for now.

Various News and Notes
Ezequiel Duran went 2-for-4 with a home run in the victory over the Tigers on Thursday.

Duran has been fantastic this season, hitting .326/.367/.567 with 12 home runs and four stolen bases in 229 plate appearances. There is regression coming though. His zone contact is well below league average and he swings out of the zone too much. However, even with the potential regression, he is still a valuable fantasy piece because of his contributions in multiple categories and his multi-positional eligibility.

Spencer Torkelson went 2-for-3 with two home runs in the loss to the Rangers on Thursday.

Torkelson has struggled this season, hitting .223/.304/392 with 11 home runs and two stolen bases. However, his max and average exit velocities are in the top 20% of hitters this season and he has done a good job of not chasing out of the zone a ton. The former first overall pick has talent in the bat and it feels like it is a matter of time before the breakout comes for him.

Josh Donaldson went 1-for-5 with a home run in the victory over the A’s on Thursday.

Donaldson had been one of the unluckiest hitters in baseball since returning from the IL, hitting .143 with a .061 BABIP in his 63 plate appearances. However, nothing gets you right like a trip to Oakland and he has hit two home runs in the series. Donaldson is not the player he once was, but there is still thump in the bat if you are in need in deeper formats.

Brayan Bello threw seven innings versus the Marlins, allowing one run on two his and a walk while striking out five in the loss on Thursday.

Bello was fantastic on the night, carrying a no-hitter into the seventh inning before Jean Segura’s infield single got him in a little bit of trouble. Bello has been really good if you look past his bad first start on Patriot’s Day, having not allowed a home run since May 23rd and doing a good job of limiting walks. He is still available in 41% of Yahoo leagues and should be rostered in virtually every format.

Bret Baty went 1-for-2 with a home run in the loss to the Mets on Thursday.

Well, this is bittersweet. Baty went deep and then was pinch hit for later in the game by Danny Mendick which is about as LOLMETS as you can get. Baty is a top tier prospect that has not produced as of yet, but he has a ton of pop in the bat and the underlying numbers aren’t bad. This might be a good time to buy low on him as long as the Mets don’t replace him with DANNY MENDICK!!!

Streaming Pitchers (Under 50% in CBS)

Pitcher for Today: None

Bottom of the pitching slate isn’t very tempting today.

High Risk Options:Mike Soroka vs MIA, Cal Quantrill at CHC, Carlos Carrasco vs SF, Osvaldo Bido vs MIL, Christopher Sanchez vs WAS, Bryan Hoeing at ATL.

Pitcher for Tomorrow:  Johan Oviedo vs MIL

Oviedo has quite been pretty good recently and the Brewers have not been good at all.

High Risk Options: Kyle Bradish vs MIN, Tyler Anderson vs ARI, Kutter Crawford at TOR.

For those of you that would like to see how these picks play out, I have a doc I put together to track the stats from my recommended pitchers. It does not include the “High Risk Options.”
