Roto Riteup: June 3, 2024

The Nationals are going to put him in the outfield before they call up James Wood or Dylan Crews.

  2. Quick Hits
  3. Various News and Notes

Closer Chaos

Yimi García threw an inning versus the Pirates, allowing a run on two hits and no walks while striking out three. It appears that Garcia is the frontrunner for saves while Jordan Romano is on the IL.

Quick Hits

Andrew Benintendi was placed on the IL with achilles tendonitis. There is no timetable for his return. Oscar Colas was recalled to take his spot on the roster.

Michael Wacha was placed on the IL with a fractured foot. There is no timetable for his return, but he is likely facing an extended absence. Daniel Lynch was recalled to take his spot on the roster.

Vaughn Grissiom was placed on the IL with a hamstring strain. There is no timetable for his return. Bobby Dalbec was recalled to take his spot on the roster.

Jorge Mateo left Sunday’s game with a head injury after being hit in the head by Cedric Mullins in the on deck circle.

He has been entered into concussion protocol. Consider him day-to-day for now.

Luis Arraez left Sunday’s game with a shoulder injury after this play:

Manager Mike Shildt stated after the game that the injury does not appear to be serious. Consider him day-to-day for now.

Kyle Isbel left Sunday’s game after a collision in the outfield. There was no update on his condition following the game. Consider him day-to-day for now.

Blake Snell left his start on Sunday with a groin issue. This is a recurrence of his previous injury. He is expected to hit the IL.

Brandon Marsh left Sunday’s game with a hamstring strain. Consider him day-to-day for now.

Various News and Notes

Trevor Larnach went 1-for-4 with a home run in the victory over the Astros on Sunday.

Larnach has quietly been pretty good this season, hitting .270/.333/.470 with six home runs in 111 plate appearances. He has spent most of his games at DH this season which could mean it may be difficult for him to maintain his regular playing time once the Twins get healthy, but for now, he is a decent power source for leagues where you can optimize him since he does platoon.

Luis Medina threw 5.2 innings versus the Braves on Sunday, allowing no earned runs (one unearned) on two hits and two walks while striking out six in the no-decision.

Medina’s curveball was the real star of the day, getting a 43% whiff rate on the pitch while throwing it 25% of the time. His slider was good too, but he only threw it 11% of the time. If Medina can keep the movement on these breaking pitches, he could be someone to watch for deeper leagues.

Heliot Ramos went 2-for-5 with a home run in the loss to the Yankees on Sunday.

Ramos is hitting .286/.355/.440 with three home runs and a stolen base in 93 plate appearances. There isn’t much that appears special about Ramos’ bat so this is likely a hot streak that is influenced by a massive .429 BABIP. He is a former top prospect, but he has never lived up to that hype.

The Tigers are reportedly calling up Justyn-Henry Malloy from the minor leagues on Monday. Malloy has shown some power in the minors, but struggles with consistent contact. He should get opportunities for the Tigers, but he is probably not mixed league viable yet.

Pitcher for Today: Tylor Megill at WAS

Megill has been great since coming off the IL and gets a bad Washington offense.

High Risk Options: Ryne Nelson at SF, Ryan Feltner vs CIN.

Pitcher for Tomorrow: Spencer Arrighetti vs STL

Arrighetti has pitched well as of late and gets a Cardinals offense that doesn’t scare anyone.

High Risk Options: Dane Dunning vs DET, David Peterson at WAS, Mitch Spence vs SEA.

For those of you that would like to see how these picks play out, I have a doc I put together to track the stats from my recommended pitchers. It does not include the “High Risk Options.”
