Sleeper and the Bust DK Contest

On most Tuesday’s and Friday’s and some other days, Paul Sporer and I will be doing a $5 draftkings game for anyone that is interested.

Trade Rumors!

According to Jon Morosi of MLB Network, the Rangers have contacted the Pirates about the availability of Andrew McCutchen. McCutchen has been really great for the Pirates this season, hitting .271/.394/.431 with nine home runs and seven stolen bases. He would make a lot of sense for any contender since he is on an expiring contract and won’t cost much in a trade, but while the Pirates have fallen back in the playoff race, I don’t know that they are quite ready to start shedding pieces.

Quick Hits

Matthew Boyd left Monday’s game due to elbow discomfort. Boyd wasn’t able to make it through the first inning unfortunately and considering his track record with elbow issues, this sounds very bad.

Various News and Notes

Andy Ibanez went 2-for-4 with a home run in the victory over the Rangers on Monday.

Ibanez has been red hot this month, hitting .328 with three home runs in 61 at bats. Ibanez has been getting lucky with a pretty high BABIP, but he is playing regularly and is multi-positional eligible and is worth riding with him while he is hot.

Lane Thomas went 2-for-5 with a home run in the loss to the Mariners.

Thomas has quietly been very good this season, hitting .297/.345/.515 with 14 home runs and seven stolen bases. He has gotten lucky on balls in play with a .369 BABIP, so some regression is coming, but he also is making a ton of in zone contact which allows him to have the opportunity to get lucky.

Top prospect Jordan Westburg went 1-for-3 with a single in his Major League debut.

Westburg crushed in AAA this season, hitting .295/.372/.567 with 18 home runs and six stolen bases. He has made great strides in limiting his strikeouts while still walking and improving his power over the last two seasons. There may be growing pains for the 24-year-old, but he is a priority pick up where available.

Streaming Pitchers (Under 50% in CBS)

Pitcher for Today: Bryan Woo vs WAS

Woo has pitched really well since that first bad outing and gets a Washington team no one is afraid of.

High Risk Options: Brady Singer vs CLE, Rich HIll vs SD, Jhony Brito at OAK, Paul Blackburn vs NYY, David Peterson vs MIL, Jake Irvin at SEA

Pitcher for Tomorrow:  JP Sears vs NYY

Weird to target the Yankees as a streaming matchup, but they have been dreadful over the last month.

High Risk Options: Wade Miley at NYM, Jaime Barria vs CHW.

For those of you that would like to see how these picks play out, I have a doc I put together to track the stats from my recommended pitchers. It does not include the “High Risk Options.”
