Various News and Notes
In his second game with the Rays, Oswaldo Arcia smacked a homer, a double, and a single. Arcia’s got some pop, but his strikeout rate is too high for a man with his mediocre discipline. The Twins were unwise to release him, and the Rays are going to try to coax the power out of his bat.
Jose Fernandez continues to miss bats, striking out 13 against the Cubs to raise his K/9 above 13 on the year. While this author admits to only seeing a scatter dozen innings of Fernandez on the mound, his curveball has been insane, and while he could use some coaching on limiting his pitch count, he remains one of the top-4 starters in the National League, if not all of baseball.
Streaming Pitcher Options
If you enjoy streaming pitchers or play DFS, tune into the Roto Riteup for recommendations each and every day.
A pitcher for today: Daniel Mengden at SFG (Jeff Samardzija)
Mengden has been impressive in his few MLB starts, so enjoy him in an NL ballpark.
A pitcher for tomorrow: Erik Johnson vs BAL (Ubaldo Jimenez)
Johnson hasn’t been special as a member of the Padres, but he’s a decent starter in a good balppark facing off against a poor opponent.

E Johnson stinks, I’d rather have Ubaldo….if I were desperate that is. I trust the Orioles hitting and hot bats than the Padres.
Baltimore is also top 5 in all mlb in R, HR and average, not a poor opponent. Please dont make such careless commentary!
Agreed. What is the point of giving advice if you’re going to put zero thought into it and be flat-out wrong? Just don’t do it if you don’t have the time and haven’t been following baseball too closely this year.
I think he mixed up Jimenez and Johnson. Ubaldo/Orioles makes more sense in the last sentence.
There was a whole rationale behind it, however uninformed it appears! Not a mix-up. I think the point was “pick the SD home pitcher who isnt a big name but not know/look up how good Baltimores offense is” and thats why it’s frustrating.
You don’t mean my commentary, right? heh. Yeah, I was surprised by this too.
Yeah no I meant the authors. Was just adding on to your comment!
Oh, I see! I agree then 100%. No idea why ANYONE would pick E Johnson in real life baseball or fantasy, honestly. He might be an okay reliever, but so far he’s proven to be a liability.
