Quick Hits

Brandon Belt was placed on the IL with a hamstring injury. Danny Jansen was activated to replace him on the roster and he figures to gain the most playing time from Belt being out.

Ryan Mountcastle was placed on the IL with vertigo. There is no timetable for his return.

Mitch Haniger was removed from the game on Tuesday after being hit with a pitch.

Reports are that Haniger fractured his forearm and that he will be heading to the IL.

J.D. Davis left Tuesday’s game versus the Cardinals with a sprained ankle.

He is expected to hit the IL. There is no timetable for his return.

Ian Happ left Tuesday’s game with a calf issue. Consider him day-to-day for now.

Various News and Notes
With JD Davis and Mitch Haniger expected to be placed on the IL, the Giants are going to call up top prospect Luis Matos. Matos is hitting .396/.434/.660 with six home runs and six stolen bases in AAA this season. Matos’ prospect star has dimmed in recent seasons as he has not developed the type of power that was initially. However, he has a lot of speed and plays fantastic defense and a plus hit tool.

Zach Neto went 1-for-3 with a home run in the victory over the Rangers on Tuesday.

Neto struggled when he was initially called up, but has caught fire in the month of June with three home runs, two stolen bases and a .355 batting average in 11 games. He is still hitting at the bottom of the lineup, but that is sure to change if he keeps hitting well.

Hogan Harris threw seven innings in the victory over the Rays on Tuesday, allowing one run on four hits and no walks while striking out two in the outing.

Harris was really good in the outing, getting a 37% CSW on his changeup and a 26% CSW on the fastball. More importantly, the fact he didn’t walk anyone in the outing was pretty impressive. Harris does not have overpowering stuff, but it is good enough to be a viable fantasy starter in deeper formats in the right matchups.

Aaron Hicks went 2-for-4 with a home run in victory over the Blue Jays.

Hicks has been fantastic since signing with the Orioles, hitting .363 with two home runs and a stolen base. He has been hitting fifth in the lineup more often than not and while this is undoubtedly a hot streak that will end in poor performance or in injury, it is not a bad idea to ride it while it is here.
