Nationals shortstop Luis Garcia left with an upset stomach. Consider him day-to-day for now. It may just be the flu, but keep an eye on this in case he goes on the COVID IL.

Quick Hits

Luis Cessa was placed on the IL with a side issue. Sounds like the dreaded oblique strain which typically means 4-6 weeks before a return.

Chris Sale is expected to be activated and start on Tuesday for the Red Sox. Sale has been rehabbing from a rib injury, but had a bit of a hiccup in his final rehab start which led to this moment:

Michael Lorenzen was placed on the IL with a shoulder strain. There is no timetable for his return. Reid Detmers is expected to take his place in the rotation.

Yusei Kikuchi was placed on the IL with a neck strain. There is no timetable for his return.

Jurickson Profar left Thursday’s game after a scary collision

Profar was transported to a local hospital. Consider him day-to-day for now, but he will most likely hit the IL.

Brusdar Graterol left Thursday’s game with side soreness. Consider him day-to-day for now.

Various News and Notes

Darick Hall went 2-for-4 with a home run in the victory over the Nationals on Thursday.

Hall is hitting .290/.290/.742 with four home runs in his first eight games as Major Leaguer. Clearly power is not going to be an issue for the 26-year-old, but contact likely will be. He is already striking out at a 38% rate and has yet to take a walk yet in spite of the 9.5% walk rate he had in AAA this season. The hot streak is worth riding but it will come crashing down at some point.

Roansy Contreras threw six innings versus the Reds on Thursday, allowing one run on four hits and a walk while striking out seven in the victory.

Contreras was fantastic getting a 38% CSW on the slider which worked beautifully in tandem with his 96 mph fastball. He was oddly demoted following the game, but the Pirates will likely bring him back up as soon as there is another opening, which could be very soon. If someone drops him in your league, pick him up.

Streaming Pitchers (Under 50% in CBS)

Pitcher for Today: Chad Kuhl at ARI

Kuhl has quietly put together a nice season thus far and has a nice matchup in a great park.

High Risk Options: Aaron Civale at KC, Brady Singer vs CLE, JT Brubaker at MIL.

Pitcher for Tomorrow:  Devin Smeltzer at TEX

Smeltzer has been great as of late and has a nice matchup here in a good park.

High Risk Options: Dean Kremer vs LAA, Kyle Freeland at ARI.

For those of you that would like to see how these picks play out, I have a doc I put together to track the stats from the recommended pitchers. It does not include the “High Risk Options.”

Reporting is that Contreras will be back with Pittsburgh after the ASB as the organization manages his innings. It seems to me that this could have implications on his availability toward the end of the season.
