Roto Riteup: July 5, 2012

I penned this Roto Riteup prior to yesterday’s fireworks. America!

• Carlos Lee is moving to the NL East, having been acquired by the Miami Marlins yesterday afternoon. Houston’s Minute Maid Park is solid home for right-handed hitters, while Marlins Park in Miami is decidedly less so, so his power production is going to go down for the remainder of the year. However, Lee will be playing in a much more potent lineup, so the number of runs he drives in and the frequency in which he scores should go up. All-in-all, his value will probably take a slight dip, but it will be mostly unchanged.

• Going back to the Astros is Matt Dominguez and Rob Rasmussen. A 23-year-old left-hander, Rasmussen stands only 5’9”, and while his slider is highly thought of, his stuff and size will move him to the bullpen, making him irrelevant in fantasy circles. Dominguez, on the other hand, is an interesting roto prospect. Dominguez is very advanced defensively, but he struggles with the bat. Dominguez is playing on Triple-A at 22 years of age, so there’s a chance his bat could come around and develop to the point in which he can play in the major leagues. Dominguez will never be a fantasy stud, but he could become an option in NL-only leagues sometime in the next two years.

• Chris Tillman’s back, America! Tillman was called back to the big leagues yesterday, and he promptly dominated the Seattle Mariners over more than eight innings of work. Tillman has also been pitching well again in Triple-A, so this could be a sign that he’s an official prospect (or future top starter) once again.

For those of you who play daily fantasy games like FanGraphs: The Game, or just like to stream players, here are a couple matchups you may be able to exploit.

A Pitcher for Today: Rick Porcello vs MIN
Porcello has had a nice run recently, and while he’s an erratic streaming matchup, I think he’ll get a win.

A Pitcher for Tomorrow: Kevin Millwood at OAK
If Millwood can keep his groin from exploding, he should give you six solid innings.

A Hitter for Today: Eric Hosmer at TOR (Henderson Alvarez)
Hosmer, Mike Moustakas, and Alex Gordon will have a field day against Alvarez. Heck, maybe Jeff Francoeur will, too.

“much” more potent? Meh. The Marlins offense isn’t “much” better than anyone. Other than Stanton, they really stink.
