Closer Chaos
Dennis Santana pitched a clean inning versus the Giants to register the save on Tuesday.
Santana only got the save because David Bednar had the day off, but Bednar has been a popular name in trade talks and if Santana isn’t traded himself, he would be the logical next man up.
Trades and Rumors
The Blue Jays acquired Seranthony Dominguez from the Orioles for Juaron Watts-Brown. Dominguez might have been in line for saves in Baltimore, but he will be an elite set up man in Toronto.
Quick Hits
Hyeseong Kim was placed on the IL with a shoulder injury. There is no timetable for his return. The Dodgers called up Alex Freeland to take his spot on the roster. Freeland is a top 50 prospect with a bit of power and speed, but can struggle with contact. He has done a good job of it this season though and will have opportunities with the Dodgers being banged up right now.
Jacob Wilson was placed on the IL with a broken forearm. He is droppable in all formats.
Bryon Buxton was placed on the IL with a rib injury. This doesn’t sound like a long term issue, but the Twins will play it safe.
Ronald Acuna Jr. left Tuesday’s game with Achilles tightness.
He will be evaluated on Wednesday. He is expected to go on the IL.
Jackson Chourio left Tuesday’s game with a hamstring injury.
The Brewers called it a spasm so it appears it was more precautionary than anything else. Consider him day-to-day at this time.
Juan Soto left Tuesday’s game after fouling a pitch off his foot.
X-rays were negative so it appears he avoided serious injury. Consider him day-to-day for now.
Various News and Notes
Joey Loperfido went 3-for-4 with a home run in the loss to the Orioles on Tuesday.
Loperfido has been good since his call up, hitting .375/.434/.589 with three home runs and a stolen base in 53 plate appearances. He is on the strong side of a platoon, but he has a good approach and has value where you can optimize him.
Brooks Lee went 3-for-4 with two home runs in the loss to the Red Sox on Tuesday.
Lee has been mediocre in his time in the Majors this season, hitting .256/.294/.387 with 10 home runs and two stolen bases in 326 plate appearances. He is eligible in at three infield positions and with the injury prone nature of the Twins, he is a nice deep league bench option.
