  4. Various News and Notes
  5. Streaming Pitchers

Closer Chaos

Emmanuel Clase was placed on the non-disciplinary leave list. Reports are that he is in some way tied to the gambling investigation that Luis Ortiz was placed on the same leave list. He will be out until at least the end of August. In the meantime, Cade Smith will likely be the closer in Cleveland.

Trades and Rumors

Carlos Carrasco was traded to the Braves on Monday. He is just depth for the Braves who are thin in the rotation at the moment.

The Tigers acquired Chris Paddack and Randy Dobnak from the Twins on Monday. Paddack has been up and down as a starter this year for the Twins, but this is a depth move for a Tigers team that just lost Reese Olson for the season. In return, the Twins received 19-year-old catcher Enrique Jimenez. Jimenez was ranked as the Tigers 28th best prospect and is not on fantasy radars at this time.

The Rays traded Danny Jansen to the Brewers for infielder Jadher Areinamo. Jansen becomes the backup to William Contreras and loses most of his fantasy value. Areinamo was the Rays’ 17th ranked prospect and has a good hit tool for a catcher, but not much pop. He was hitting .297/.355/.463 with 11 home runs and 15 stolen bases in High-A as a 21 year old.

According to Bob Nightengale, the Tigers are interested in trading for Eugenio Suarez. Suarez has been the most popular name on the trade block this month and the Diamondbacks are in town for a series against the Tigers so it does make a lot of sense for Detroit to make the move. Multiple teams are interested in Suarez so it will come down to what the Tigers are willing to give up for him. Suarez did leave Monday’s game with a hand injury after being hit with a pitch, but x-rays were negative so it appears he avoided serious injury.

Quick Hits
Reese Olson was placed on the 60-Day IL with a shoulder injury. As stated above, this will end Olson’s season and we will see if surgery is needed, but more than likely this will take him off most draft boards in 2026.

Parker Meadows was placed on the IL with a quad strain. There is no timetable for his return.

George Springer left Monday’s game after being hit in the head with a pitch.

Springer will likely enter concussion protocol. Consider him day-to-day for now.

Sal Perez left Monday’s game after being hit with a pitch.

X-rays were negative. Consider him day-to-day at this time.

Various News and Notes
Colson Montgomery went 2-for-4 with a home run in the victory over the Phillies on Monday.

Montgomery has been good since his callup, hitting .273/.333/.515 with four home runs and 16 RBI in 73 PAs. He struggled with contact in the minors and while his strikeout rate is just 25%, the underlying contact numbers aren’t very good and he is likely due for some regression. If he can make more contact in the zone, he could turn into a pretty good MLB player, but a 17% swinging strike rate and a 78% z-contact rate won’t work long term.

Streaming Pitchers (Under 50% in CBS)

Pitcher for Today: Justin Verlander vs PIT

Verlander is coming off of his best start of the season and has a great matchup at home.

Other Options: Mike Soroka at HOU, Luis Severino vs SEA, Bailey Falter at PIT, Erick Fedde 페디 at KC, Logan Evans at ATH, Logan T. Allen vs COL.

Pitcher for Tomorrow: None

A few interesting high risk options, but none that I feel great about

Other Options: Cal Quantrill at STL, Michael Burrows at SF, Miles Mikolas vs MIA.

For those of you that would like to see how these picks play out, I have a doc I put together to track the stats from my recommended pitchers. It does not include the “Other Options.”
