Trades and  Rumors!

Enrique Hernandez was traded to the Dodgers on Tuesday. Hernandez struggled mightily in Boston so the Dodgers he can reclaim some of the magic he had in Los Angeles. He will likely be a utility guy moving forward, but he adds much needed depth to a thinner than past Dodger teams.

Quick Hits

Aaron Hicks was placed on the 10-Day IL with a hamstring injury. The original diagnosis was a cramp, but this is clearly something more. There is no timetable for his return. Ryan McKenna was recalled to take his spot on the roster.

Kris Bryant was placed on the IL with a fractured finger. There is no timetable for his return. Elehuris Montero was recalled to take his spot on the roster.

Yandy Diaz left Tuesday’s game with groin tightness. Consider him day-to-day for right now.

Gunnar Henderson left Tuesday’s game with back discomfort. Consider him day-to-day for now.

Francisco Alvarez left Tuesday’s game after being hit with a pitch on his hand. X-rays were negative so it seems he has avoided serious injury. Consider him day-to-day at this time.

Jonny DeLuca left Tuesday’s game with a hamstring injury. He is expected to go on the IL.

Various News and Notes

Bo Naylor went 2-for-3 with two home runs in the victory over the Royals on Tuesday.

Naylor struggled initially in his Major League debut but has hit .333 with three home runs and eight stolen bases over his last eight games. The former top prospect seems to be coming into his own and most importantly he is cutting down on the strikeouts which is a good sign.

Griffin Canning threw five innings versus the Tigers on Tuesday, allowing two runs on seven hits while striking out eight in the no-decision.

Canning was really good in this one in spite of running into trouble in the fourth inning. He has looked better since the break, but is most likely just a team streamer at best in good matchups.

Will Benson went 1-for-3 with a home run in the victory over the Brewers on Tuesday.

Benson has been fantastic, hitting .325 with seven home runs and 10 stolen bases in 126 plate appearances since returning from the minors. With reports that the Reds are trying to trade both Jonathan India and Nick Senzel, there may be more playing time for the former top prospect which could make his value even higher.

Cade Marlowe went 2-for-3 with a home run and a stolen base in the victory over the Twins on Tuesday.

Marlowe has been playing since the Mariners lost both Jarred Kelenic and AJ Pollock to the IL. In that time he has hit .333/.455/.778 with a home run and two stolen bases. Marlowe is not known for his power, but he could be a valuable source of speed if the Mariners don’t add an outfielder at the deadline.

For those of you that would like to see how these picks play out, I have a doc I put together to track the stats from my recommended pitchers. It does not include the “High Risk Options.”

Naylor hasn’t had any stolen bases.
